Following a human trafficking investigation that began in September 2016, a Peterborough teen has been arrested on a warrant and is facing several charges.

Human Trafficking Investigation:
A 17-year-old Peterborough teen is facing several charges following a human trafficking investigation.
In September 2016 the Durham Regional Police Service contacted the Peterborough Police Service regarding a potential victim of human trafficking from their jurisdiction believed to be in the Peterborough area. The victim was 17 years old at the time the offences began.
Through the investigation it was revealed that between February and May 31, 2016 the accused forced the victim to have unwanted sexual relations with other individuals for money, which was then handed over to the accused, given illicit drugs and sexually assaulted by the accused. The offences took place in the Peterborough area.
Through the investigation the male suspect was identified. On December 22, 2016 a warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused.
On the night of February 16, 2017 the accused was located and detained at a bus station in the Oshawa area. The Peterborough Police Service attended the location and the accused was arrested on the warrant and was transported in custody back to Peterborough.
As a result of the investigation the accused is charged with the following:
- Sexual assault
- Administer noxious thing with intent – endanger life or cause bodily harm
- Overcome resistance by administering or attempting to administer a drug
- Material benefit from sexual services under 18 years (living off the avails)
- Failing to comply with a probation order X2
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Feb. 17).
Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.
