April 14 – 18, 2017 – Peterborough man facing possession of stolen property and drug charges

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Arrest:
An 18-year-old Peterborough man is facing possession of stolen property and drug charges following a weekend investigation.

On April 16, 2017 at approximately 2:20 a.m. a break and enter took place at a cellphone shop located in Brookdale Plaza in Peterborough. During the incident a large number of phones were stolen.

On April 17, 2017 at approximately 5:30 p.m. police were dispatched to Brookdale Plaza for a man attempting to sell one of the stolen phones.

Officers attended the area where they located the male suspect in possession of one of the stolen phones. During the investigation officers seized a quantity of Alprazolam and a quantity of Canadian currency from the male’s possession.

As a result of the investigation Ryan Joseph Pellerin, 18, of Idyllwood Crescent, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking (Alprazolam)
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was released from police custody the night of April 17, 2017 with a court date scheduled for May 2017.

After leaving police custody officers received information regarding the accused being in possession of further stolen property. Police located the accused in the area of Water Street where he was re-arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (April 18).

Assault with a Weapon Arrest:
A 22-year-old Peterborough man is facing weapon and assault charges following a Monday night incident at a City residence.

On April 17, 2017 at approximately 10 p.m. police were called to a Peterborough residence for an assault. It was reported that during a verbal dispute between the accused and the victim the accused brandished a knife and struck the victim with the weapon. The accused then left the area. The accused and the victim, a male in his late teens, know each other.

As a result of the investigation the accused was located at his residence later that same night where he was arrested and charged.

Mohamad Duad Omar, 22, of Towerhill Road, Peterborough, is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order X2.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (April 18).
