Tuesday May 16, 2017 – Two Peterborough residents charged following break-ins at City homes

Break and Enter Arrests:
Two Peterborough residents are facing charges after two City homes and a vehicle were broken into.

On May 13, 2017 a Romaine Street home was broken into and items including a tablet, an iPhone and jewellery were stolen.

Through the “Find My iPhone” application the complainants were able to provide officers with a location of the stolen phone.

Officers attended a Paterson Street home where they located the two female co-accused along with the stolen iPhone and other stolen property.

Through the investigation it was determined the co-accused are also connected to a May 9, 2017 break and enter at a Paterson Street home and connected to a theft from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Reid Street residence that took place overnight on May 12, 2017.

As a result of the investigation the following persons were arrested at the scene and charged:

Shannon Quigley, 43, of Paterson Street, is charged with the following:

  • Break and enter X2
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 X2
  • Possession of break-in instruments

Dorothy Ferguson, 38, of Paterson Street, is charged with the following:

  • Break and enter X2
  • Possession of a schedule I substance (cocaine)
  • Theft under $5,000

Both accused appeared in court on May 14, 2017.

Care or Control While Impaired Arrest:
A 9-1-1 call to police regarding an unresponsive male in a vehicle had led to charges for a 26-year-old Marmora man.

On May 5, 2017 at approximately 2:40 a.m. the complainant observed a male asleep in the driver’s side of a vehicle that was parked in a convenience store parking lot. The vehicle was running at the time and the male was unresponsive. The complainant called 9-1-1 and officers were dispatched to the scene.

While attempting to rouse the man officer’s noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the accused. A subsequent breath test revealed the male had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

As a result of the investigation James Thomson, 26, of Maple Road, Marmora, was arrested and charged with care or control while impaired and care or control over 80mg.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 25, 2017.

Assault/Robbery Investigation:
The Peterborough Police Service is attempting to identify a male suspect following an assault and robbery at the Simcoe Street bus terminal.

On May 13, 2017 at approximately 8:15 p.m. police were dispatched to the Simcoe Street bus terminal for an assault and robbery. It was reported that while the 69-year-old male victim was in the washroom area he was approached by an unknown male who assaulted him and stole cash from his pocket.

The incident was reported to police and officers along with EMS attended. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • Caucasian
  • Between 30 and 40 years old
  • Approximately 6’ 0”
  • 170lbs
  • Short brown hair
  • Minimal to no facial hair
  • Wearing glasses, a gray/blue jacket, orange shirt, blue jeans and gray shoes

Assault Arrest:
A 54-year-old Peterborough woman has been charged following an assault at a London Street residence.

On May 12, 2017 the victim, a woman in her 60’s, was in the hallway of a multi-unit residence on London Street when she became involved in a brief verbal dispute with the accused. During the dispute it was reported that the accused struck the victim.

Police were contacted and attended the residence where they located the accused. As a result of the investigation Annette Faye Wentzell, 54, of London Street, was arrested and charged with assault.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 1, 2017.

Assault Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 57-year-old man with assault following a Friday night incident.

On May 12, 2017 the victim, a man in his 20’s, was in the kitchen area of a multi-unit residence on Bethune Street when he was approached by the accused who struck him in the face. The accused then left the residence.

The incident was reported to police and a short time later officer located the accused at a Rubidge Street residence.

As a result of the investigation James Francis Ferguson, 57, of Rubidge Street, was arrested and charged with assault and fail to comply with a probation order.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 1, 2017.

Assault Arrest:
A 44-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with assault following an incident at a Rubidge Street apartment.

On May 9, 2017 the accused attended the victim’s Rubidge Street apartment and during a verbal dispute with the victim, a woman in her 30’s, it was reported that the accused assaulted the victim. The accused and victim know each other.

On May 10, 2017 the accused was located in a Lansdowne Street parking lot where, as a result of the investigation, he was placed under arrest.

Sean Paul Cowling, 44, of Royal Drive, Peterborough, is charged with assault and fail to comply with a recognizance.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 25, 2017.
