Aug. 26 – 28, 2017 – Peterborough man charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop at scene of accident

Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Arrest:
A 30-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident following a Saturday morning incident on Lansdowne Street.

On August 26, 2017 at approximately 8:54 a.m. a male driving a vehicle on Lansdowne Street at Park Street struck another vehicle then fled the area, driving dangerously through a store parking lot at a high rate of speed. The complainant’s vehicle sustained a significant amount of damage in the collision while the complainant sustained no injuries.

Shortly after 9 a.m. officers located the suspect vehicle in an Aylmer Street South parking lot. As a result of the investigation the male driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged.

Vasikaran Inthirakumar, 30, of no fixed address, Peterborough, is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and fail to stop at scene of accident.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in weekend and statutory holiday court on August 27, 2017.

Utter Threats/Resist Peace Officer Arrest:
A 28-year-old Scarborough man has been charged with uttering threats and resisting a police officer following a weekend incident at a downtown nightclub.

On August 27, 2017 at approximately 2 a.m. it was reported that when security staff attempted to escort a male patron off the premises of a George Street North nightclub the male threatened two of the security staff.

Officers arrived on scene and, as a result of the investigation, attempted to place the male under arrest for threats at which point the male resisted. Officers were able to apprehend the male and he was arrested and charged.

Jermaine Anthony White, 28, of Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough, is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm X2 and resist peace officer.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 28, 2017.

Causing a Disturbance/Resist Peace Officer Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 31-year-old man following a disturbance at a Hunter Street West bar.

On August 27, 2017 at approximately 12:54 a.m. officers were dispatched to a Hunter Street West establishment for a disturbance.

It was reported that a male patron was attempting to engage other patrons in a fight. When officers arrived on scene they saw the male in front of the establishment also attempting to engage security staff in a physical altercation.

When officers attempted to place the male under arrest for cause disturbance the male resisted. Officers were eventually able to apprehend the male.

As a result of the investigation Ian Matthew Lawless, 31, of Hopkins Avenue, was arrested and charged with causing a disturbance and resist peace officer.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 28, 2017.

Over 80mg Arrest:
A 16-year-old Peterborough teen has been charged following a weekend traffic stop.

On August 26, 2017 at approximately 1:20 a.m. an officer on patrol in the area of Water and Brock Streets saw a vehicle operating with no lights.

The officer conducted a traffic stop at Water and McDonnell Streets. While speaking with the male driver of the vehicle officers noted a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath. A subsequent breath sample revealed the driver had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

As a result of the investigation the driver, a 16-year-old Peterborough male, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle with more than 80mg blood alcohol content and charged under section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act with Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero.

The youth was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 18, 2017.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.

Domestic Assault Arrest:
A 32-year-old Peterborough man has been charged following a dispute with his ex-partner.

The victim, a man in his 40’s, and the accused were previously involved in a domestic relationship.

On the night of August 27, 2017 the accused and victim became involved in an argument. During the argument it was reported that the accused assaulted the victim.

Police were called and located the accused outside a Peterborough residence.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Aug. 28).

The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident.

Break and Enter: Murray Street
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a safe containing a large amount of cash was stolen from a Murray Street home.

At approximately 9 a.m. on August 26, 2017 the complainant returned to his Murray Street residence to find an unknown male running out the front door. The complainant attempted to chase the man but lost sight of him at Stewart Street. During the theft a small safe containing a large amount of money was stolen.

The suspect is described as:

  • Black male
  • 5’9” to 5’10”
  • Stocky build
  • Wearing a green hat and dark clothing
