Tuesday August 1, 2017 – Peterborough man charged with fraud over $5,000

Fraud Over $5,000 Arrest:
A 29-year-old Peterborough man has been charged following a fraud investigation.

Between June 23, 2017 and June 26, 2017 the female victim provided the accused, whom she knows, with more than $7,000 to assist her in enrolling for postsecondary education.

After the accused failed to use the funds per the designated use and failed to return the money to the victim police were contacted in late July and began an investigation.

On July 31, 2017 officers attended a Peterborough residence where, as a result of the investigation, the accused was placed under arrest.

Gaurav Paul, 29, of Applewood Crescent, Peterborough, is charged with fraud over $5,000.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Aug. 1).

Criminal Harassment/Utter Death Threats Arrest:
A 46-year-old Forest, Ontario woman has been charged with uttering threats and criminal harassment following an investigation.

It was reported to the Peterborough Police that between June 4, 2017 and July 21, 2017 the accused sent the victim, her adult daughter who resides in the Peterborough area, harassing and threatening messages.

On July 31, 2017 a warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused for uttering threats and criminal harassment. Later that same day the accused was located by the Lambton Shores OPP and held in custody at their detachment. Officers with the Peterborough Police attended where they took custody of the accused and continued the arrest on the warrant.

The accused was transported back to Peterborough and is scheduled to attend court later today (Aug. 1).

The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim in this familial-based incident.
