Friday September 15, 2017 – Peterborough man arrested and charged following bicycle theft

Theft Arrest:
A 41-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged after a bicycle was stolen from outside a local mall.

On September 15, 2017 at approximately 2:30 a.m. an unknown male was seen stealing a bicycle from a bike rack outside a Lansdowne Street mall and then riding the bike east through the parking lot.

Police were called and provided a description of the male. A short time later officers located the male in a Monaghan Road restaurant and located the stolen bicycle outside the restaurant.

As a result of the investigation Michael Joseph Giroux, 41, of Hunter Street East, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Sept. 15).

Theft Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 20-year-old Peterborough man following a theft from a local grocery store.

On the evening of September 14, 2017 a male entered a Towerhill Road grocery store, selected items off the shelves, concealed the items in a backpack and then left the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. When a store employee attempted to stop the male and check his backpack the male fled the area on foot.

Police were called and officers attended the area. A short time later officers located the male suspect on Chemong Road.

As a result of the investigation Dillon Dwayne Cowen, 20, of no fixed address, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and fail to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Sept. 15).
