Tuesday November 21, 2017 – Caledonia resident charged with assault following investigation

Assault Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 29-year-old Caledonia resident with assault following an investigation.

On November 14, 2017 police were contacted regarding an incident at a local group home that had taken place on November 12, 2017 where it was reported that a staff member used excessive force in attempting to restrain a youth.

On November 15, 2017 police attended a Peterborough address where, as a result of the investigation, the accused was arrested and charged.

Shannon Schpanouski, 29, of Unity Side Road, Caledonia, Ontario, is charged with assault.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on December 7, 2017.

Break and Enter/Possession of stolen property Arrest:
A 16-year-old Peterborough teen has been charged following a residential break-in.

On the morning of November 20, 2017 officers were dispatched to an east-end residence for reports of a broken window and a person walking away from the scene.

The owner of the home arrived on scene shortly after and advised police that property totalling $2,500 had been stolen.

Police located the male suspect at a Peterborough address and found he was in possession of some of the stolen property.

As a result of the investigation the youth was arrested and charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and fail to comply with a sentence.

The youth was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on December 11, 2017.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.

Theft/Assault Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 17-year-old youth following a theft and assault incident at a local store.

On the evening of November 20, 2017 a youth attended a Charlotte Street drug store, concealed products on his person and then attempted to leave the store without paying for the merchandise. When a lost prevention officer tried to stop the youth he was struck in the face.

Police were called and attended the store where, as a result of the investigation, the youth was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and assault with intent to resist arrest.

The youth was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on December 11, 2017.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.

Domestic Assault Arrest:
A 34-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged following a domestic assault incident.

On November 20, 2017 the accused and victim were involved in a verbal dispute at their Peterborough residence. During the dispute it was reported that the accused assaulted the victim. The incident was reported to police and officers attended.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with assault. During the arrest the accused was found to be in possession of marijuana. The accused is also charged with possession of a schedule II substance (Marijuana under 30 grams).

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today (Nov. 21).

The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident.

Theft Arrest:
A 37-year-old Peterborough resident has been charged with theft following an incident at a Chemong Road store.

On November 21, 2017 at approximately 10 p.m. a loss prevention officer at the store observed a person bagging multiple items at the self-check-out without scanning all of the items first.

Police were called and attended the store where they located the suspect.

As a result of the investigation Candice Mary Moss, 37, of no fixed address, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and fail to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Nov. 21).

Theft Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 25-year-old woman with theft following an investigation.

On the night of November 20, 2017 loss prevention officers at a Lansdowne Street West store saw a person in the cosmetics department select items, conceal the items on their person and then exit the store without attempting to pay for the merchandise. Officers attended the store and located the suspect still in the area.

As a result of the investigation Chelsea Violo, 25, of no fixed address, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today (Nov. 21).
