Friday January 5, 2018 – Peterborough man charged with assault following incident outside local bar

Assault Arrest:
A 23-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with assault following an early October incident outside a George Street bar.

On October 1, 2017 at approximately 1:15 a.m. two males became involved in a verbal argument while inside a George Street establishment. Both males were ejected from the establishment by bar security. Once outside it was reported that one of the males struck the other male in the face then fled the area. The two males are acquaintances. Police were called and attended.

On January 2, 2018 the accused attended the police station where, as a result of the investigation, he was arrested.

William Trevor Horton, 23, of McDonnel Street, is charged with assault.

The accused was released from custody on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in court on January 18, 2018.

Extreme Cold Warning:
Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the Peterborough area with a prolonged period of very cold wind chills expected.

Wind chill values due to northwest winds up to 50 kilometres per hour will be in the minus 35 to 40 range early this morning (Jan. 5). Temperatures and wind chill values will be slightly lower Friday night. The extreme cold will continue until Saturday or possibly into Sunday morning.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk:

  • Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
  • Check on older family, friends and neighbours.
  • If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.

Possession of Stolen Property Arrests:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged two persons for being in possession of jewellery that had been stolen from a local residence.

Between October 20 and November 20, 2017 several pieces of jewellery totalling $3,300 were stolen from a Peterborough home. Through the investigation it was revealed that two individuals had attended a local swap shop and had pawned the stolen items.

As a result of the investigation on January 2, 2018 the two persons were arrested and charged.

Suzanne Laura Rowe, 27, of Collison Avenue, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Timothy Rhoda Langton, 79, of Mount Pleasant Road, Cavan Monaghan Township, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Both accused were released from custody on a promise to appear and are scheduled to attend court on January 18, 2018.

Public Assistance:
The Peterborough Police Service continues to ask anyone with information regarding a December 20, 2017 traffic incident to please come forward.

On December 20, 2017 at approximately 5:30 p.m. there was an accident involving a black pickup and a white car at the intersection of Chemong Road and Sunset Boulevard. There were no injuries reported as a result. Damage is estimated at $6,500.
