At the Police Services Board meeting held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 the Board unanimously approved the reduced 2012 Police Services budget, which takes into account the offset of the uploading of Court Security costs by the Province for a total reduction of $118,845.96. On Friday, February 17, 2012 the Chair of the Police Services Board called a special board meeting to further address the budget. On Friday, February 17 all Board Members were notified of the special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, February 22. On Tuesday, February 21 Mayor Daryl Bennett wrote a letter to the Chair of the Board with respect to the budget process. This letter was also copied to the local media. The special Police Services Board meeting will go ahead as scheduled for Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 3 p.m. The Board remains committed to the provision of adequate and effective policing in our communities and a timely resolution of the budget. The Mayor’s letter will be addressed at the regularly scheduled March 2012 Police Services Board meeting should the budget not be approved by City Council prior to that time.
