Shoplifter Arrest - Probation BreachesOn January 15, 2012, staff at Chumleigh's, a downtown second-hand retailer, grew suspicious while assisting a customer known to trade in brand new DVD's from Wal-Mart. When the customer left the store at 12:15 pm, Chumleigh's staff alerted Wal-Mart security. At 1:40 pm, Wal-Mart Security observed a male matching the provided description enter Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart Security kept observations of the male while he selected a number of DVD's and one food item. The male then attended the self check-out and paid for the one food item and then went directly into the washroom. The male exited the washroom and left the store, triggering the security alarm at the doors. Security were unable to apprehend the male at that time.
A short time later, the male returned to Chumleigh's with seven new DVD's from Wal-Mart. The Peterborough Lakefield Community Police were notified of this matter by Wal-Mart security. Through the course of the investigation the male was identified.
On January 26th, 2012, 31 year old, Adam McCue of McKellar Street, Peterborough was arrested and charged with Theft under $5000.00, Possession of Stolen Property, and two counts of Breach of Probation. McCue will make his first Court appearance on February 23, 2012, to begin the process of determining his innocence or guilt.
Threats - Breach of Probation
On January 26, 2012, 39 year old, Dorothy Groves of no fixed address (Peterborough) was in attendance at a day program seeking help from a local community agency. Due to past behaviour issues, Groves had been trespassed from this agency and she was asked to leave. Groves was agitated but became increasingly upset and began yelling at staff. During the course of the altercation Groves threatened to kill the staff and Police were contacted.
Officers with the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police attended the scene and located Groves. She was arrested for Uttering Threats and for Breaching her Probation Order. Groves was held in police custody and will appear in Court today to begin the process of determining her innocence or guilt.
