Communications & Technology

Divisional Overview

The Communications and Information Technology Division has three (3) primary units, consisting of the 911/Communciations Centre, Records Unit and the Information Management and Technology component.

911/Communications

The 911/Communication Centre is staffed by 4 Communications Shift Supervisors and 10 Communicators divided into the four (4) four platoon system. The members of this unit are responsible for the 24/7/365 operation of the communications centre which takes all 9-1-1 calls for the City of Peterborough and Village of Lakefield; processes all police emergency and administration calls for service; provides radio dispatch communications for field officers; operates and does research on 2 computer databases and monitors the internal and external security monitoring system for headquarters. 

Records Unit

This unit includes four (4) Data Entry staff divided into the four (4) platoons providing 24/7/365 real time data entry for field officers. This includes all reports and preparation of crown briefs for regular and weekend and statutory holiday (WASH) court appearances. In addition this unit is responsible for management of all police data through the system and in keeping with best practices and legislative requirements (Privacy Act as one example). There are eight (8) full-time staff assigned including the members who operate the Lakefield office. These members primarily deal with validation of the data in the system, updating the databases and responding to all public requests or information including FOI requests, police records checks and insurance confirmation letters.

Information Technology Support

This unit, comprised of one (1) full time staff member, is supplied as part of the Service Level Agreement with Peterborough Technology Services. This person is backed up by other qualifies members of PTS and supplemented by police service staff. In addition, 3rd party staff facilitate support and repairs of the radio and telephone systems through service level agreements with local companies
