Police Logo

The insignia of the Peterborough-Lakefield Community Police Service represents the people that make up the Police Service as well as the Region and the People that we serve, The following is an explanation of the symbolism:

  • The BLUE backgrounds represent the "brave women and men in blue" who have served and continue to serve the communities of Peterborough and Lakefield, and the people in the surrounding area.
  • The CROWN is a reminder that, the Police Service serves the subjects of Canada's reigning monarch.
  • The SWORD pointed downwards represents all ''veteran soldiers". It is composed of a pommel and hilt of blue and silver representing the monogram of the police service - a reversed "P", a forward "L" and a forward "P" which indicates "Peterborough Lakefield Police".
  • The WAVES represent the Otonabee River, common to both municipalities; as well as the many lakes and rivers that may be found in our region.
  • SEVEN BARS are used - as opposed to the six found in our former logo (Peterborough Coat of Arms) - representing the addition of Lakefield and showing the amalgamation of the Lakefield and Peterborough Police Services.
  • The TRIPLE MAPLE LEAF is reminiscent of the coat of arms of Ontario, the Province in which the new Police Service is Proud to serve.
  • The SINGLE RED MAPLE LEAF is reminiscent of the Canadian Flag, a reminder
that when each one of our members does their part to ensure a peaceful environment, the Country as a whole is a better place to live.
  • The GREEN background is reminiscent of the vast greenbelts located within our Policing Jurisdiction.

It is anticipated that all those who wear this symbol will do so with pride and diligence, thus living up to the fine service that was formerly rendered by the two Police Services that are now combined to serve together.
