Tuesday August 8, 2017 – Arrests made in Hopkins Avenue break-in

Break and Enter Arrests:
Three persons have been arrested and charged following a break-in at a Homewood Avenue residence.

On August 4, 2017 approximately 2:50 p.m. a Homewood Avenue residence was broken into while the residents were away and computer equipment stolen. Following the break-in the co-accused fled the area in a cab. Two of the persons involved then attempted to pawn the stolen property at a local pawn shop.
A neighbour called 9-1-1 to report having seen suspicious persons in their neighbourhood and police were dispatched to the area.

Through the investigation the three accused were identified. On the night of August 4, 2017 the accused were located and arrested at a Brock Street apartment building. During the arrest officers located stolen property inside one of the units including the stolen computer equipment.

As a result of the investigation the following persons were arrested and charged:

Dorothy Jean Ferguson, 38, of Brock Street, is charged with:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a recognizance

Shannon Marie Quigley, 43, of Stewart Street, is charged with:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a probation order X2

Cassandra Quigley-Solinkski, 22, of Brock Street, is charged with:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

All three accused appeared in weekend and statutory holiday court on August 5, 2017, were remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear again in court later today (Aug. 8).

Break and Enter Arrest:
A 38-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges following a break-in at a multi-unit residence on Dublin Street.

On August 7, 2017 at approximately 11:50 a.m. a male broke into a Dublin Street unit through a locked door. Once inside the male brandished a knife and confronted and threatened the female victim, whom he knows. The victim fled the residence and police were called. The accused and victim know each other.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. that same day officers located the accused walking in the area of Murray and Park Streets.

As a result of the investigation Lee Eric Walker, 38, of Crystal Drive, is charged with the following:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Aug. 8).

Assault with a Weapon Arrest:
A 21-year-old woman is facing charges including assault with a weapon and mischief following an early Sunday morning incident at a Peterborough residence.

Shortly after 2 a.m. on August 6, 2017 the accused became involved in an argument with her female cousin while at a Peterborough residence. During the argument it was reported that the accused brandished a knife, threatened the adult victim, struck her in the face with her fist and then struck her with a bag. During the dispute the victim’s property was damaged.

The incident was reported to police and officers were dispatched to the home where they located the accused.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Mischief under $5,000

The accused appeared in weekend and statutory holiday court on August 6, 2017, was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear again in court later today (Aug.8).

The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim in this familial-based incident.

Assault Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 39-year-old man following two assaults in the King Street area.

On the morning of August 1, 2017 police received a 9-1-1 call regarding a disturbance in the area of King Street. Through the investigation it was revealed that the accused had approached the victims, two males both in their 50’s, and then assaulted them. All males involved know each other.

On August 3, 2017 a warrant was issued for the arrest of Norman Bradley Lawe, 39, of no fixed address, Peterborough, for assault X2.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. on August 4, 2017 police located the accused in the area of Ashburnham Drive where he was arrested on the warrant.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on August 4, 2017.

Drug Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a Curve Lake man following a disturbance at a Lakefield restaurant.

Shortly after midnight on August 6, 2017 police were dispatched to a restaurant/bar on Bridge Street in Lakefield for a disturbance involving an intoxicated male. Officers attended the establishment and placed a male under arrest for public intoxication.

During the investigation the male was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine.

Coleman Murray Williams, 23, of Mississauga Street, Curve Lake, is charged with possession of a schedule I substance (cocaine).

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 24, 2017.

Break and Enter: Hopkins Avenue
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a break-in at a Hopkins Avenue home.

Sometime between midnight at 3 p.m. on August 4, 2017 unknown person(s) entered a Hopkins Avenue residence through an insecure patio door. The residents were not home at the time. Once inside the thieves stole a laptop.

The Peterborough Police Service reminds residents to check and double check to ensure windows and doors are properly locked and secure before leaving your residence.

Friday August 4, 2017 – Three charged, fentanyl and cocaine seized following traffic stop

Drug Arrests:
Three people have been arrested and charged and powered fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana seized following a Thursday night traffic stop.

As a result of an ongoing investigation, at approximately 8:20 p.m. on August 3, 2017 members of the Peterborough Police Service ICAD (Intelligence, Crime Analyst, Asset Forfeiture and Drugs) Unit along with members of the Street Crime Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of Aylmer and Simcoe Streets.

As a result of the investigation the following three parties were arrested and charged:

Aaron Stewart, age 19 of Bayley Street, Ajax:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana
  • Proceeds of Crime

Spencer Cooper, age 25 of McKellar Street, Peterborough:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Proceeds of Crime

A 17-year-old male from Ajax:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Proceeds of Crime

The following items were seized during the investigation:

  • 49 grams of powdered fentanyl
  • 19 grams of cocaine
  • A quantity of marijuana
  • Approximately $5,000 Canadian Currency

A motor vehicle was seized as offence related property.

All three accused were held in custody and are scheduled to appear in court later this morning (Aug. 4).

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released. 

Assault Arrest:
A 32-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with assault following an incident at the Simcoe Street courthouse.

While in custody at the Simcoe Street courthouse on August 3, 2017 it was reported that the accused struck an 18-year-old male, also in custody, in the face.

As a result of the investigation Stephen Andrew Dunkley, 32, of no fixed address, Peterborough, was charged with assault. The accused appeared in court on August 3, 2017.

Break and Enter: Park Street North
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a break-in at a Park Street North home.

Sometime between 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on August 3, 2017 unknown person(s) entered a Park Street North home by prying open a screen window that had been left open. Once inside the thieves stole a MacBook Pro valued at $1,300.

The Peterborough Police Service reminds residents to check and double check to make sure that windows are closed and secured before leaving their residence.

Thursday August 3, 2017 – Peterborough man facing charges following early morning disturbance

Drug Arrest:
A 33-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges following an early morning disturbance in the area of George and Charlotte Streets.

On August 3, 2017 at approximately 2:40 a.m. several police officers were dispatched to the area of George and Charlotte Streets for a disturbance between the accused and other persons.

The accused was arrested at the scene and initially charged with cause disturbance. Following the arrest, which the accused resisted, the accused was found to be in possession of an amount of crack cocaine, a large amount of cash and drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation Shan Patel, 33, of King Street, Peterborough, is charged with the following:

  • Causing a disturbance
  • Resist peace officer
  • Possession of a scheduled I substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Aug. 3).

Impaired/Over 80mg Arrest:
A call from a concerned citizen about an impaired driver at a Chemong Road fast food restaurant resulted in the arrest of a 62-year-old Peterborough man.

On August 3, 2017 at approximately 12:20 a.m. a concerned citizen called police regarding a possible impaired driver. The citizen provided police with a vehicle description, licence plate and told dispatchers that the vehicle was at a fast food restaurant on Chemong Road.

Officers arrived and located the vehicle in the drive-thru line. When the vehicle attempted to accelerate out of the line officers stopped the vehicle. While speaking with the male driver officers noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath.

A subsequent breath sample revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

As a result of the investigation John Virtanen, 62, of Lawrence Street South, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with more than 80mg blood alcohol content.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 24, 2017.

Impaired/Over 80mg Arrest:
A 28-year-old Barrie woman is facing charges following an early morning traffic stop in Peterborough.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on August 3, 2017 an officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving erratically in the area of George and Hunter Streets.

While speaking with the female driver, officers noted a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. A breath sample revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

As a result of the investigation Melissa Maggie Giannone, 28, of Brighton Road, Barrie, was arrested and charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with more than 80mg blood alcohol content.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 24, 2017.

Rev. Warren Vollmer recognized as Service’s Honorary Police Chaplain

Today we recognized The Reverend Inspector Warren Vollmer as Honorary Police Chaplain for the Peterborough Police Service.

In December 2006 Rev. Vollmer was named the police service’s chaplain and since that time has been a vital member of our team.

“The Reverend Inspector Warren Vollmer has ministered to our members in times of difficulty and triumph,” says Chief Murray Rodd.

“His ministry has involved marriages, christenings, and funerals of members and their families. He has been with our members during the middle of the night and at their bedside when seriously injured. He has provided prayers, guidance and hugs. He will be missed but never forgotten. He made a difference.”

In late 2017 August Rev. Vollmer will begin his new role as Minister of Frankford United Church in Frankford, Ontario.

The ceremony to honour Rev. Vollmer will take place today (Aug. 2) at 11 a.m. in the Peterborough Police Service’s training room.
