Wednesday August 23, 2017 – Peterborough man facing additional charges following theft from vehicle

Possession of Stolen Property/Use Credit Card Arrest:
A 27-year-old Peterborough man is facing additional charges following a theft from a vehicle at a Charlotte Street residence.

Overnight on August 1, 2017 an unknown male entered the complainant’s vehicle that was parked at a Charlotte Street home and stole her driver’s licence, banking cards and health card. Following the theft the complainant realized her stolen banking cards had been used at various local convenience stores.

The complainant called police and officers investigated. Through the investigation the male suspect was identified. The male had been arrested on August 15, 2017 on an unrelated matter and was in custody (original media release) Media Release for August 16, 2017

As a result of this investigation Thomas Mark Perdue, 27, of Murray Street, is being additionally charged with possession of property obtained by crime, use credit card and fail to comply with a probation order. The accused is scheduled to appear in court later today (Aug. 23).

Break and Enter: George Street North
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a break-in at a George Street North music business.

At approximately 8:24 a.m. on August 22, 2017 police were called regarding a break and enter to a music business on George Street North that was locked at the time of the incident. Once inside the business thieves stole items including an iMac computer.

Possession of a Schedule I Substance Arrest:
A 23-year-old Peterborough woman is facing drug charges following an investigation.

During the course of an investigation, during the early morning hours of August 21, 2017 officers located a woman’s purse abandoned behind a Charlotte Street bar. Through the investigation the owner of the purse and its contents was identified. Inside the purse officers located an amount of cocaine along with a woman’s I.D.

Officers located the woman still in the area. As a result of the investigation Nicole Cierra Montgomery, 23, of River Road South, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with possession of schedule I substance (cocaine).

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 7, 2017.

Tuesday August 22, 2017 – Peterborough woman charged with fraud following incidents at Brock Street grocery store

Fraud Arrest:
A 24-year-old Peterborough woman is facing fraud charges following two incidents at a local grocery store.

It was reported to police that on August 14, 2017 and again on August 16, 2017 a woman entered a Brock Street grocery store without any property on her person, selected new items off the shelves then used a receipt to return the items she had not originally paid for.

Through the investigation the woman was identified. On August 21, 2017 officers attended a Peterborough residence where, as a result of the investigation, the woman was arrested.

Ginalisa Fusco, 24, of George Street North, is charged with fraud under $5,000 X2 and fail to comply with a probation order X2.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on August 21, 2017.

Aug. 19 – 21, 2017 – Montreal man & Ajax man arrested and charged following downtown weekend robbery

Robbery with Violence Arrest:
A 25-year-old Montreal man and a 28-year-old Ajax man have been arrested and charged after three males were robbed over the weekend.

On August 19, 2017 at approximately 2:30 a.m. the victims, a 21-year-old male and a 19 year-old male, were at a downtown food vendor at the corner of George and Charlotte Streets when they were approached by two men unknown to them.

It was reported that without apparent provocation the two unknown males ripped a gold chain off the neck of each of the male victims. During the incident one of the victims, who was able to grab his chain back, was assaulted.

The two unknown males then fled the area on foot and police were called and dispatched to the area. During the investigation it was reported that a third victim, an 18-year-old male also in the area at the time, had his gold chain stolen off his neck.

A short time later officers located the two unknown males still in the area where, as a result of the investigation, they were arrested and charged.

Jeffrey Anthony Jackson, 25, of Terrace Coursol, Montreal, Quebec, is charged with the following:

  • Robbery with violence
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Fail to comply with a recognizance X3

James Alexander Park, 28, of Tansley Crescent, Ajax, Ontario, is charged with the following:

  • Robbery with theft X2

The co-accused were held in custody and appeared in weekend and statutory holiday court on August 19, 2017.

Theft from a Motor Vehicle Arrest:

A 19-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including theft from a motor vehicle following a June incident.

Shortly after midnight on June 11, 2017 police received a 9-1-1 call from a concerned citizen regarding a suspicious male in the area of Chandler Crescent and Louden Terrace in Peterborough.

Officers arrived in the area and located the suspicious male walking onto the front porch of a Louden Terrace home. Through the investigation the male was arrested and charged.

Through further investigation on August 19, 2017 a second male attended the police station, where, as a result of the investigation, he was also arrested in relation to this incident.

Christian Emerson Cripps, 19, of Aylmer Street, is charged with theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle and trespassing at night.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 7, 2017.

Domestic Assault Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 22-year-old man with domestic assault following a Friday evening incident involving his ex-girlfriend.

The victim, an 18-year-old woman, and the accused, were in a previous domestic relationship.

On August 18, 2017 the accused and victim became involved in an argument while at a Peterborough residence. During the argument it was reported that the accused spat in the victim’s face.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in weekend and statutory holiday court on August 19, 2017.

The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident.

Assault with a Weapon Arrest:
A 55-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including assault with a weapon following an altercation in the City.

On August 16, 2017 at approximately 7 p.m. two men became involved in an argument while at the corner of George Street and Parkhill Road. During the argument it was reported that the accused brandished a knife, slashed the backpack the victim was wearing and attempted to engage the victim in a fight. The accused then left the area. The victim, a 29-year-old man, and the accused do not know each other.
Police were called and officers were dispatched to the scene. Later that same evening the accused attended the police station where, as a result of the investigation, he was placed under arrest.

Brian Edward Vienneau, 55, of Murray Street, is charged with the following:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 7, 2017.

Thursday August 17, 2017 – Two Peterborough teens charged after theft at Hunter Street laundromat

Theft Arrests:
Two Peterborough teens have been charged following a theft at a Hunter Street laundromat.

On June 29, 2017 police were contacted regarding the theft of surveillance video cameras from a laundromat on Hunter Street that had occurred the day before. Through the investigation two males suspects were identified.

As a result of the investigation on August 6, 2017 a 16-year-old Peterborough male was arrested at a Water Street address and charged with theft under $5,000.

The youth was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 28, 2017.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.

On August 16, 2017 at approximately 7 p.m. officers located the second male suspect at a Brock Street address where, as a result of the investigation, he was placed under arrest.

Justin David Smith, 18, of Murray Street, is charged with theft under $5,000 and fail to comply with a sentence.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 11, 2017.

Fraud Arrests:
The Peterborough Police Service has charged two teens with fraud following an investigation.

On July 20, 2017 police received a complaint regarding numerous unauthorized withdrawals that had been made to the victim’s bank account in June and July of 2017. The total value of the fraud is approximately $2,860.

Through the investigation two suspects were identified, the victim’s 15-year-old granddaughter and the granddaughter’s 15-year-old boyfriend.

On August 16, 2017 police attended a Peterborough residence where, as a result of the investigation, the two youth were placed under arrest and charged with fraud under $5,000.

Both youth were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court on September 11, 2017.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.

Mischief Arrest:
A 23-year-old Peterborough woman has been charged with mischief following a domestic incident.

The victim, a male in his 20’s, and the accused are currently in a domestic relationship.

On August 15, 2017 during a domestic dispute it was reported that the accused damaged the door to the victim’s Peterborough residence. Officers were dispatched to the residence where they located the accused.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 31, 2017.

The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident.

Wednesday August 16, 2017 – Brantford man charged with domestic assault, assaulting police officer following incident at campground

Domestic Assault/Assault Peace Officer Arrest:
A 44-year-old Brantford, Ontario man is facing several charges including domestic assault and assaulting a police officer following an incident at a Lakefield campground.

On August 15, 2017 at approximately 10:40 p.m. officers responded to the Lakefield campgrounds after receiving calls regarding a woman in her 40’s who had been assaulted by her male partner.

Police were dispatched and attended the campground where they located the male. As a result of the investigation officers attempted to place the male under arrest at which time he resisted, threatened an officer and assaulted an officer.

Officers were able to apprehend the male and place him under arrest. While in custody at the police station the male broke the plexiglass partition of the cell.

The accused is charged with the following:

  • Domestic assault
  • Assault peace officer
  • Resist peace officer
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Intimidation – Justice system – persons or the general public
  • Fail to comply with the conditions of an undertaking to abstain from the consumption of alcohol or other intoxicating substances

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Aug. 16).

The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident.

Assault Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 40-year-old woman with assault following an incident at a Lansdowne Street West restaurant.

On August 4, 2017 a woman attended a Lansdowne Street West restaurant to pick-up her food and became involved in an argument with staff regarding her order. When one of the staff attempted to resolve the situation it was reported that the woman spat in the staff member’s face. The woman then left the area. Police were contacted and attended the restaurant.

Through the investigation the female suspect was identified. On August 14, 2017 the woman attended the Peterborough police station where she was placed under arrest.

Shannon Danee Tripp, 40, of Stewartcroft Drive, Peterborough, is charged with assault and breach of recognizance.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 7, 2017.

Break and Enter Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has made an arrest from an April 2016 break-in at a local business.

In mid-April 2016 a Lansdowne Street West auto business was broken into and a television stolen.

Through the investigation, which included the use of the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto, the male suspect was identified.

On August 15, 2017 officers located the male walking in the area of Dalhousie and Rubidge Streets.

As a result of the investigation Thomas Mark Perdue, 27, of Murray Street, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with break and enter, possession of a schedule I substance (cocaine) and fail to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Aug. 16).

Assault Peace Officer/Possession of Stolen Property Arrest:
A 42-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including assaulting a police officer and possession of stolen property following a Tuesday morning incident.

On August 15, 2017 at approximately 10:20 a.m. a male entered a Chemong Road store, selected a flat screen television then walked directly to the exit without making any attempt to pay for the item.

At approximately 11:20 a.m. officers located the male suspect walking in the area of Aylmer Street between London and McDonnel Streets and carrying a TV box.

As a result of the investigation officers attempted to place the male under arrest for possession of stolen property at which time the male resisted officers and assaulted an officer.

Daniel Paul Manley, 42, of Murray Street, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault a peace officer
  • Resist a peace officer
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a probation order X 4

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on August 15, 2017.

Break and Enters:
The Peterborough Police Service’s Street Crime Unit is investigating following a break-in at three local businesses.

Sometime between 8 p.m. on August 14, 2017 and 6:45 a.m. on August 15, 2017 two businesses located in a Lansdowne Street West plaza and one business located in a Kawartha Heights Boulevard Plaza were broken into. All businesses were locked and secured at the time.

In two of the break-ins cash and hair products were stolen while there is currently no reported theft from the third business.

It is believed that the same suspect(s) are responsible for all three incidents.

Ongoing Traffic Investigation:
The Peterborough Police Service’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate following a Tuesday afternoon collision.

On August 15, 2017 at approximately 2:15 p.m. a three vehicle collision took place in the area of Sir Sandford Fleming Drive and Crawford Drive.

As a result of the investigation a 51-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including failing to yield and driving while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act) and driving with no insurance (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act).
The Traffic Unit is looking to speak with the male driver of a pick-up truck involved in the incident that was pulling a horse-type trailer and heading eastbound at the time.

Tuesday August 15, 2017 – Peterborough man charged with criminal harassment following investigation

Criminal harassment Arrest:
A 46-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with criminal harassment following an investigation.

The victim, a woman in her 40’s, and the accused are involved in an on-again-off-again domestic relationship.

Between July 17 and July 21, 2017 the victim received several unwanted messages from the accused. The messages were sent after the accused had been advised by both police and the victim to not communicate with the victim. The incidents were reported to police and officers investigated.

As a result of the investigation on July 24, 2017 a warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused on the charge of criminal harassment – repeated communication.

On August 14, 2017 at approximately 11 p.m. police located the accused at a Peterborough residence where he was arrested on the warrant.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Aug. 15).

The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident.

Update to Mather and Bell Robbery

The Peterborough Police Service investigated an attempted robbery at the Mather and Bell Pharmacy on Park Street around noon on Friday August 11, 2017. A man allegedly walked into the store, claimed to have a gun and demanded cash and narcotics. The store manager confronted the man who then fled the store. The store manager caught up with the man and grabbed his backpack.

Police officers along with the K-9 unit attended the area to search for the suspect. Witnesses were able to point the direction of travel of the suspect. The K-9 unit was able to successfully track the suspect and arrest him.

Curt Douglas Pelley (35) of no fixed address was arrested and charged with Robbery with Intent, Disguise with Intent and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He appeared held in custody and appeared before WASH court on August 12, 2017.

Impaired Arrest at McDonald’s Drive-thru

A 31 year-old Peterborough man was arrested for Impaired after he passed out while waiting for his food at a local McDonald’s drive-thru. During the early morning hours on August 12, 2017 police were called to the McDonald’s on Chemong Road. Staff reported that a vehicle ordered food at the drive-thru and proceeded to the pay window. While waiting for his order the accused fell asleep. Police arrived to find the vehicle still at the window and the driver still asleep.

As a result of the investigation John Birkenhead (31) of Herbert Street was arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired – motor vehicle and Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

The accused was later released and is to appear in court on September 7, 2017.

Threats and Mischief Arrest

The Peterborough Police were called to a St. Paul street residence on the report of a male inside breaking windows and other property at the residence. Police attended the area and located the suspect a short ways away from the address.

During the investigation police learned that an 18 year-old man, had been kicked out of his parents residence a week prior to this incident. On August 11, 2017 in the late afternoon the male had sent threatening text messages to his father and then went to the residence while his father was away. At the residence witnesses report seeing the accused break a window, patio tables, exterior lights and some patio stones.

The accused was charged with Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Mischief Under $5000.00.

The accused was held in custody and appeared before WASH court on August 12, 2017.

The accused in this matter will not be identified to protect the identity of the victim.

Arrest made in Hit and Run

On August 4, 2017 the Peterborough Police investigated a hit and run at the Pioneer Gas station on Lansdowne Street East. Police attended the area and found a lone vehicle heavily damaged and sitting in the middle of the road. The driver of that vehicle was still in their vehicle when police arrived.

Police learned that a truck pulled out of the gas station and struck the complainant’s vehicle. The suspect truck stopped for a second and then fled the area. Traffic officers attended the gas station and were able to identify the vehicle via the surveillance video at the business. Further investigation positively identified the driver of the truck. A warrant was issued for the suspect’s arrest.

On August 11, 2017 Jacob Darren Croan (22) of Campbellford was arrested and charged with Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident. The accused was held in custody to Appear before WASH court on August 12, 2017.

Forcible Confinement/ Utter Threats Arrest

On August 12, 2017 the Peterborough Police were called to a Talwood Drive apartment on the report of a threatening incident. A worker attended the apartment for a routine visit. When the worker could not comply with a request made by the client, the client blocked the exit to the apartment and told the worker that he was not leaving. The worker attempted to leave but the client became more agitated and threatened to stab the worker.

The worker was able to call 911. The client calmed down and left the apartment. Police met the client in the lobby of the apartment.

Steven Land (34) of Talwood Drive was arrested and charged with Forcible Confinement and Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm. The accused was released and is to appear in courts on September 7, 2017.

Retirement Home Break/Enter Arrest

On August 9, 2017 the Peterborough Police were called to a Charlotte Street Retirement Home on the report of several break and enters to resident’s rooms. Police arrived and learned that a number of vulnerable person’s rooms were broken into. With the help of video surveillance police learned that the suspect entered the retirement home and went floor to floor checking rooms to see if they were unlocked. If unlocked police see the suspect enter the room for a short period of time and then leaves.

After a lengthy investigation police learned that a quantity of cash and items eventually were stolen from a number of residents. Police officers were able to identify the suspect via the surveillance video.

On August 12, 2017 members from the Active Crime Unit attended a Ware Street address to look for the suspect. Police located the suspect and arrested her.

Deanna Walsh (36) of Ware Street, Peterborough was arrested and charged with Break Enter and commit x2, Break Enter with Intent x9 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

The Accused was held in custody and was to appear before WASH court on August 13, 2017.

Friday August 10, 2017 – Oshawa man facing sexual assault charges on person under 16 years of age following investigation

Sexual Assault/Sexual Interference Arrest:
A 34-year-old Oshawa man is facing charges including sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age and sexual interference following an incident earlier this summer.

In June of 2017 the victim, a female under 16 years of age, attended a Peterborough residence. While at the residence it was reported that the victim was sexually assaulted by a male whom she knows. The incident was reported to police in August 2017.

As a result of the investigation on August 10, 2017 the accused was arrested at a Peterborough residence.

Cory John James., 34, of Lakeview Park Avenue, Oshawa, is charged with the following:

  • Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age
  • Sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age
  • Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Aug. 11).

Traffic Unit holds Road Safety Detail:
On Thursday August 10, 2017 members of the Peterborough Police Service’s Traffic Unit held a joint road safety project with its road safety partners from the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Finance.

Through the detail a number of vehicles were inspected and Provincial Offence Notices were issued.

In total seven vehicles were taken out of service and removed from the roadway due to safety concerns.

Our Service holds approximately nine of these joint road safety details each year.

Friday August 10, 2017 – Woman arrested and charged following robbery with scissors at downtown store

A 40-year-old Peterborough woman has been arrested and charged following a Thursday morning robbery at a downtown store.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on August 10, 2017 a woman attended a George Street North store and attempted to leave the store without paying for an item of clothing.

When a staff member approached the woman about paying for the item the woman brandished a pair of scissors and threatened the employee.

Police were called and officers were dispatched to the area.

Through the investigation the woman was identified. Shortly after 11 a.m. officers located the woman walking in the area of McDonnel and Stewart Streets.

As a result of the investigation Katherina Ann Charbonneau, 40, of McDonnel Street, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Robbery with a weapon
  • Fail to comply with a recognizance
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on August 10, 2017.
