RIDE Checks on St. Patrick’s Day – Please Celebrate Responsibly

If you are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this weekend the Peterborough Police Service reminds you to do so responsibly.

RIDE checks will be held at various locations across our patrol areas on Saturday night (March 17).

“Make the right choice and don’t drink and drive,” says Traffic Services Unit Sergeant Peter Sejrup.

“Plan ahead. Designate a sober driver. Keep the number of a local taxi company in your phone. There is zero excuse for driving impaired.”

On Sunday morning a team of officers will be conducting mobile RIDE checks throughout our patrol areas. This marks the first time the Peterborough Police Service has held a mobile RIDE detail the morning after a significant celebration.

“The only thing that sobers you up is time. We see many incidents where people are still impaired the morning after overindulging,” says Sgt. Sejrup. “A strong coffee, a greasy breakfast or a short nap will not make you fit to drive. That is why the Peterborough Police will also be on patrol Sunday morning.”

“If you make the mistake of driving while impaired, by alcohol and/or a drug, there is a good chance you will be caught. Ideally, we will find no one impaired and driving.”

We want to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend and thank all those who drive sober or arrange other safe means home.
