Friday May 11, 2018 – Brighton, Ontario man charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and fail to stop at scene of accident

Impaired by Drug/Dangerous Driving Arrest:
A 30-year-old Brighton, Ontario man is facing charges including impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident following a Wednesday afternoon incident.

A 30-year-old Brighton, Ontario man is facing charges including impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident following a Wednesday afternoon incident.

On May 9, 2018 at approximately 12:50 p.m. a vehicle heading south on Stewart Street rear- ended a parked vehicle on Stewart Street. The suspect vehicle then fled the area and was seen driving erratically heading north on Rubidge Street and hitting a parked vehicle on Rubidge Street. A witness observed the vehicle stopped at a light at Rubidge and Charlotte Streets with the male driver who appeared to be unconscious. Total damage to the two vehicles struck during the incident is estimated at $15,000.

Police were called and located the suspect vehicle at Rubidge and Charlotte Streets.

Through the subsequent investigation it was determined the accused was impaired by a drug.

As a result of the investigation James Roy Thomson, 30, of Crispin Street, Brighton, Ontario, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Impaired driving (Drug – suspected Opiod)
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a schedule II substance (Marijuana under 30grams)
  • Fail to stop at scene of accident

The accused was further served a 90 day automatic drivers licence suspension and a seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 14, 2018.

Assault Arrest:
A 16-year-old Peterborough teen has been charged with two counts of assault following an incident at a Peterborough-based group home.

On May 9, 2018 police were contacted to attend a local youth group home for an assault. It was reported that the accused, a 16-year-old female, had assaulted two staff members.

As a result of the investigation the youth was arrested and charged with assault X2.

The youth was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 28, 2018.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.
