Friday August 10, 2018 – Omemee resident and a Peterborough resident facing charges following incident at Chemong Road store

Fraud/Theft/Assault Arrest:
A 32-year-old Omemee resident and a 41-year-old Peterborough resident are facing charges following an incident at a Chemong Road store.

On Thursday August 9, 2018 the accused attended a Chemong Road store, selected various items from the shelves then walked to the customer service desk with the unpaid merchandise and fraudulently returned the unpaid merchandise.

The accused returned to the store later that same day and also fraudulently returned items and then left the store without attempting to pay for the other merchandise in her possession.

Once outside the store loss prevention officers attempted to place the accused under arrest at which point the accused resisted and assaulted one of the loss prevention officers. A passerby attempted to involve himself in the incident and attempted to assault one of the loss prevention officers.

Police were called and attended the scene. During the investigation it was also reported that on August 8, 2018 the female accused had attended the same store and performed two fraudulent transactions by returning unpaid merchandise at the customer service desk

As a result of the investigation Katie-Lynne Hughes, 32, of Emily Manor Drive, Omemee, is charged with the following:

  • Fraud under $5,000 X4
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Fail to comply with an undertaking

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 30, 2018.

Robert Neilson Coleman, 41, of Lily Lake Road, Peterborough, is charged with assault.

Possession of stolen property Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 33-year-old Peterborough resident with being in possession of stolen property following an incident in late July.

Between July 30, 2018 and July 31, 2018 unknown person(s) stole a purse from a vehicle parked at a Weller Street residence. The incident was reported to police. The victim’s stolen credit card was then used at two separate locations.

On August 9, 2018 the accused was in police custody on another matter during which time the accused was found to be in possession of the victim’s property including a stolen credit card.

As a result of the investigation Tanya Karen Eastman, 33, of Murray Street, was additionally charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 6, 2018.

Food and lodging fraud Arrest:
A 35-year-old Peterborough resident and a 36-year-old Almonte, Ontario, resident have been charged with food and lodging fraud following an incident at a Simcoe Street bar.

On August 2, 2018 the co-accused attended a Simcoe Street bar during which time they ordered approximately $100 in food and beverages and then left the bar without paying their bill. Bar staff contacted the accused and advised that they need to pay their unpaid bill. As a result of the bill not being paid police were contacted and investigated. A warrant was issued for their arrest.

On August 9, 2018 the co-accused attended the police station and turned themselves in on the warrant.

Alexander Johnathon Durham, 35, of Kawartha Heights Boulevard, is charged with food and lodging fraud and fail to comply with a recognizance X2.

Cheyenna Leigh Sevenhuysen, 36, of Concession 8, Almonte, Ontario, is charged with food and lodging fraud and fail to comply with the conditions of an undertaking X2.

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court on August 30, 2018.
