Friday November 30, 2018 – Peterborough resident facing drug charges following a bicycle stop where police located and seized purple heroin and crack cocaine

Drug Arrest:
A 23-year-old Peterborough man is facing drug charges following a bicycle stop where police located and seized purple heroin and crack cocaine.

On November 30, 2018 at approximately 12:10 a.m. an officer stopped a male riding a bicycle in the area of Aylmer and Rink Streets for improper bicycle lighting under the Highway Traffic Act. Through further investigation the male was found to be in possession of purple heroin (heroin mixed with fentanyl) and crack cocaine.

As a result of the investigation Mackenzie David Smith, 23, of no fixed address, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance (Heroin)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance (Cocaine)
  • Fail to comply with a recognizance

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Nov. 30).

Domestic assault Arrest:
A 24-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with domestic assault following a Wednesday night incident.

On the night of November 28, 2018 the accused and female victim became involved in an argument while driving in the City. During the argument it was reported that the accused assaulted the victim including pulling her out of the vehicle onto the ground. Police were called and officers investigated.

As a result of the investigation the accused was later arrested at a Peterborough residence and charged with domestic assault.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on December 20, 2018.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Break-in: Hilliard Street
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating a break-in to a Hilliard Street home after thieves made their way into the residence through an insecure window.

The break-in occurred sometime between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on November 26, 2018 while the homeowner was away. Once inside the residence items including a large television, a tablet, an android box and a media player were stolen.

Everyone has a role to play in crime prevention. We remind citizens to double-triple check to ensure all doors and windows are properly locked and secured when leaving their residence.
