Thursday January 3, 2019: Peterborough man facing several charges including sexual assault and forcible confinement following investigation

Sexual assault/forcible confinement arrest: 

A 21-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges including sexual assault and forcible confinement following an investigation.

Between spring of 2017 and summer 2018 the accused and female victim were in a domestic relationship. During that time it was reported that the accused sexually assaulted, assaulted, threatened the victim and prevented the victim from leaving their residence when she wanted to. The incidents were reported to police in late November 2018.

As a result of the investigation on December 14, 2018 a warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused.

On December 22, 2018 the accused attended the police station to turn himself in on the warrant for the following charges:

• Sexual assault

• Assault

•Overcome resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle another person

• Forcible confinement

• Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on December 22, 2018.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released. 

Assault causing bodily harm arrest:

The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 31-year-old Peterborough woman with assault and assault causing bodily harm following an incident on Christmas Eve.

On December 24, 2018 at approximately 9:45 p.m. officers were dispatched to a Peterborough home for a domestic dispute. It was reported to police that the accused had attended the residence of her ex-boyfriend’s mother and assaulted her ex-boyfriend and his mother. The female victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment to her injuries.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested at the residence and charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 17, 2019.

In order to protect the identity of the victims in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released. 

Assault arrest: 

A 21-year-old Peterborough area man has been arrested and charged with assault with a weapon following a late December incident at a Peterborough nightclub.

On December 29, 2018 at approximately 1:45 a.m. officers attended a downtown nightclub for a report of an assault. It was reported that while outside the establishment the accused threw a rock at a security guard striking the security guard.

As a result of the investigation Evan Mikneil Gilbert, 21, of Keene Road, was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 15, 2019.

Impaired driving arrest:

An 18-year-old Hiawatha man has been charged with impaired driving following a single vehicle collision in East City.

On December 24, 2018 at approximately 12:55 a.m. police were dispatched to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision where a car had struck a traffic light pole at the intersection of Burnham and Hunter Streets.

During the investigation officers noted a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath. The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

As a result of the investigation Taylor William Musgrave, 18, of Paudash Road, Hiawatha, was arrested and charged with impaired driving.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 16, 2019.

Assault with a weapon arrest: 

A 67-year-old Peterborough area man is facing several charges of domestic assault following an investigation.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on December 25, 2018 an officer on patrol observed the accused strike the female victim while in a parking lot. Through further the investigation it was revealed that the accused had assaulted the victim on several other occasions.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with the following:

• Assault X3

• Assault with a weapon (sharp object)

• Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on December 26, 2018.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released. 

Sexual assault arrest: 

A 24-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with sexual assault following an investigation.

In late December 2018 police received information that while the female victim was at a Peterborough residence in mid-November 2018 the victim had been sexually assaulted. The accused and victim know each other.

On December 29, 2018 the accused attended the police station where, as a result of the investigation, the accused was placed under arrest.

Dana Beland, 24, of Denure Drive, is charged with sexual assault.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 15, 2019.

Assault/impaired driving arrest: 

The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 35-year-old Omemee man with impaired driving and domestic assault following a December incident.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on December 23, 2018 police received information from a witness that a male had struck a female while inside a vehicle in the area of Aylmer and Hunter Streets. The victim exited the vehicle and the accused continued driving the vehicle west on Hunter Street passed an officer on patrol.

The officer located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Aylmer Street North. While speaking with the accused the officer noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the accused’s breath.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with the following:

• Assault

• Impaired driving

• Operate a motor vehicle without insurance (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)

The accused was served a 90 day automatic drivers licence suspension and a seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 17, 2019.

Failure to stop at scene of accident arrest: 

A 45-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges including failure to stop after an accident and assault with intent to resist arrest following a December motor vehicle collision.

On December 22, 2018 at approximately 2:25 a.m. police received a call from a witness reporting a single vehicle collision at the intersection of Water Street and Woodland Drive.

The witness reported seeing the driver of the vehicle walking away from the vehicle. A short time later an officer located the female walking northbound on Lakefield Road.

As a result of the investigation the accused was placed under arrest for fail to stop after accident. During the incident the accused resisted arrest, threatened and assaulted an officer.

Nicole Helen Lefebvre, 45, of Park Street North, is charged with the following:

• Failure to stop after accident

• Assault with intent to resist arrest

• Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

• Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 16, 2019.
