Tuesday January 8, 2019 – Peterborough man arrested and charged following early morning pursuit in stolen vehicle

Dangerous driving/flight from peace officer arrest:

A 37-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged following an early morning pursuit in a stolen vehicle.

Shortly after 3 a.m. on January 8, 2019 an officer on patrol attempted to conduct a vehicle stop in the area of River Road South for a vehicle being driven with no headlights and no front licence plate. The vehicle failed to stop for the officer and continued driving at a high rate of speed onto Sydenham Street. During the pursuit the vehicle travelled over sidewalks, lawns and residential properties before coming to a stop on a curb.

Through the investigation it was revealed that the accused was driving a stolen vehicle.

As a result of the investigation Shane Alexander MacLean, 37, of Sydenham Road, Peterborough, is charged with the following:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Jan. 8).

Festive R.I.D.E Campaign Wrap-up:

During the Peterborough Police Service’s Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign which ran from late November 2018 to early January 2019 officers stopped and checked 2,325 vehicles in the City of Peterborough, Village of Lakefield and Township of Cavan Monaghan.  Of the 2,325 vehicles checked two impaired driving arrests were made.

“We would like to thank all those citizens that made the right choice over the holidays and did not get behind the wheel impaired,” says Traffic Sergeant Ryan Wilson.

Over 80mgs arrest:

A 37-year-old Toronto man has been arrested and charged following a vehicle check during a Festive R.I.D.E detail.

At approximately 11:55 p.m. on December 29, 2018 officers were conducting a R.I.D.E detail on George Street. While speaking with a driver of a vehicle officers noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath. A subsequent breath sample revealed the driver had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation Kyle DeMara, 37, of Bloor Street, Toronto, was arrested and charged with driving over 80mgs.

The accused was also served an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 15, 2019.

Over 80mgs arrest:

The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 46-year-old Perth, Ontario man following a vehicle check during a Festive R.I.D.E detail.

On December 30, 2018 at approximately 2:45 a.m. officers were conducting a RIDE detail on Ashburnham Drive.

As a result of a vehicle check Brent J. Franklin, 46, of Christie Lake, Perth, was arrested and charged with driving over 80mgs.

The accused was also served an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 15, 2019.

Theft under/utter forged document arrest:

A 44-year-old Peterborough woman has been arrested and charged following an investigation in December.

On December 28, 2018 police received information that during a period from mid to late December 2018 the accused had stolen, forged and cashed cheques belonging to a person whom she knows.

On December 30, 2018 officers located the accused and as a result of the investigation the accused was placed under arrest.

Michelle Angela Jubinville, 44, of Reid Street, is charged with the following:

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Utter forged document X2
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 30, 2019.

Break-in: Sherbrooke Street

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a break-in at a Sherbrooke Street home.

Sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. on January 7, 2019 thieves entered the residence through an unlocked back door and once inside the home stole a wallet and loose change.
