Criminal harassment/dangerous driving/impaired Arrest:

A 30-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges including criminal harassment, impaired driving, dangerous driving and flight from police following a weekend incident.

Between March 14, 2019 and April 14, 2019 the accused made unwanted and repeated communication with the female victim via multiple text messages and messages through social media and by attending the victim’s residence and place of work.  The accused and victim were in a brief relationship. The unwanted communication was reported to police and officers investigated.

On the morning of Sunday April 14, 2019 officers attended the accused’s Peterborough residence in an attempt to place the accused under arrest for criminal harassment. During the investigation officers saw the accused leave the residence in a motor vehicle, driving over the curb in order to avoid police.

Officers activated their emergency vehicle lights at which point the accused sped up, travelling in a dangerous manner through a residential area.

Shortly after 11 a.m. offices were able to conduct a traffic stop of the suspect vehicle and the accused was initially placed under arrest for criminal harassment.

While speaking with the driver officers noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath. A subsequent breath test revealed the driver had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle.

The accused was additionally charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Dangerous operation
  • Flight from peace officer

The accused was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (April 15).

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Sexual assault Arrest:

A 30-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with sexual assault following a Friday evening incident.

On April 12, 2019 at approximately 6:20 p.m. first responders were dispatched to the area of Jackson Park for an intoxicated male. While assessing the male the male sexually assaulted a first responder.

As a result of the investigation Travis Justin Cassidy, 30, of Murray Street, was arrested and charged with sexual assault.

The accused appeared in weekend and statutory holiday court on April 13, 2019.

Impaired Arrest:

A 47-year-old Apsley, Ontario man is facing charges including impaired driving following a Saturday night traffic stop.

On April 13, 2019 at approximately 10:30 p.m. an officer on patrol saw a motor vehicle heading northbound on Chemong Road driving erratically and without tail lights.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver of the vehicle noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath.

A subsequent breath test revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation James Michael Bucknell, 47, of Balmer Road, Apsley, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

The accused was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 30, 2019

Assault Arrest:
The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 21-year-old female with assault after a cab driver was spat on earlier in April.

On April 8, 2019 at approximately 11 p.m. a Peterborough taxi driver picked up two fares in the area of George Street North. While in the taxi one of the females spat in the driver’s face and spat on the vehicle.

The incident was reported to police and a description of the female was provided. Through the investigation the accused was identified.

On April 14, 2019 officers located the accused at a Peterborough residence where, as a result of the investigation, she was placed under arrest.

Farrah Nicole Eriksen, 21, of George Street North, is charged with assault.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 30, 2019.

Break-ins:

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following vehicle break-ins at a local golf club.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 12, 2019 vehicles parked in a Armour Road parking lot were broken into and contents including purses, wallets and laptops were stolen.

Domestic assault Arrest:

A 38-year-old Oshawa, Ontario man has been charged with domestic assault following a March 2019 incident.

On March 20, 2019 the accused and female victim became involved in an argument at their Peterborough residence. During the argument the accused assaulted the victim. The incident was later reported to police.

On April 13, 2019 the accused was arrested by the Durham Regional Police Service. Peterborough Police attended and the accused was transported to Peterborough. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 1, 2019.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Break-in: Hunter Street West restaurant

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a break-in at a Hunter Street West restaurant.

Sometime between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. on April 14, 2019 unknown person(s) broke into the restaurant on Hunter Street West by smashing the front door. Once inside an amount of cash was stolen from the cash register.

Use of credit card/possession of stolen property Arrest:

A 23-year-old Peterborough woman has been arrested and charged after stolen bank cards were fraudulently used at a local convenience store.

In early April 2019 the victim had his wallet containing bank cards stolen from his vehicle. The bank cards were then used multiple times at a Peterborough convenience store. Through the investigation the female suspect was identified.

Jenna Marie Kennedy, 23, of Water Street, is charged with the following:

  • Use of credit card
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a recognizance

On April 10, 2019 the accused attended court on another matter where the additional charges were read.
