A 34-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested on a warrant for charges including robbery with violence and is facing additional charges including assault with a weapon and assault with intent to resist arrest following an investigation.
On the morning of April 10, 2019 police were called regarding an assault. It was reported that while the accused and male victim, who know each other, were at a multiunit residence in Peterborough the accused entered the victim’s room, assaulted and threatened the victim and stole his cellphone. The accused then left the residence.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused for the following charges:
- Robbery with violence
- Break and enter
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
At approximately 4:30 p.m. on April 10, 2019 police located the accused on the roof of a Peterborough apartment building in the area of Sheridan Street. The male was subsequently taken off the roof and was taken to a local hospital where he was medically cleared and released.
As a result of the investigation Michael Thomas McCartney, 34, of Sumac Court, Peterborough, was arrested on the warrant.
During the interaction with officers while the accused was on the roof the accused assaulted an officer (throwing rock) and resisted arrested.
The accused was additionally charged with the following:
- Assault with a weapon
- Assault with intent to resist arrest
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (April 12) where the additional charges will be read.
