Friday May 31, 2019 – Peterborough man arrested on a warrant for charges including arson and mischief endangering life following a fire at a local gas station in late April.

Arson Arrest:

A 34-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested on a warrant for charges including arson and mischief endangering life following a fire at a local gas station in late April.

On Saturday April 20, 2019 at approximately 12:30 p.m. police, fire and EMS attended a Lansdowne Street West gas station for a fire. Through the investigation it was revealed that a male had attended the gas station and caused a fire while a woman was attempting to fill her gas tank. During the incident a pump at the gas station was damaged along with the woman’s vehicle.

During the incident the male was injured. The male was initially taken via EMS to a local hospital then subsequently transported to a Toronto-based hospital.

On April 23, 2019 a warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused, who was in hospital. The warrant was executed when the male was released from a local hospital on May 30, 2019.

As a result of the investigation on May 30, 2019 Mohan Jayantilal Patel, 34, of Aylmer Street North, Peterborough, was arrested on the warrant and charged with the following:

  • Arson – disregard for human life
  • Mischief – endangering life
  • Mischief over $5,000 X2

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on May 30, 2019.

Ongoing Investigation:

On Saturday April 20, 2019 at approximately 12:30 p.m. police, fire and EMS attended a Lansdowne Street West gas station for a fire.

Forcible confinement/domestic assault Arrest:

The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 19-year-old Stouffville, Ontario man with forcible confinement and domestic assault following a Thursday night incident.

On May 30, 2019 the accused and female victim became involved in an argument while at a Peterborough residence. It was reported that during the incident the accused assaulted the victim and prevented her from leaving a room within the residence. The incident was reported to police and officers were dispatched to the residence.

It was further reported that during an incident in September of 2018 the accused had assaulted the victim.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Forcible confinement
  • Domestic assault X2

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 31, 2019.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Impaired Arrest:

A 69-year-old Peterborough is facing charges including impaired driving, fail to remain and driving while under suspension following a Wednesday evening collision.

On May 29, 2019 at approximately 6:20 p.m. a two vehicle collision took place on Hilliard Street between Dumble Avenue and Anson Street. It was reported to police by witnesses that the accused failed to remain at the scene following the collision and fled the area in his vehicle. A witness followed the accused and police were notified.

Shortly after police located the accused in the area of Water and Argyle Streets. While speaking with the male driver of the vehicle officers noted an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath.

A subsequent breath test revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle. Further investigation revealed the driver is a suspended driver and was driving without proper insurance.

As a result of the investigation Wayne Douglas Scott, 69, of Ross Street, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operating while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Driving while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Fail to remain (Highway Traffic Act)
  • Fail to have insurance card (Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)

The accused was served an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 20, 2019.

Domestic assault Arrest:

A 40-year-old Peterborough woman has been arrested and charged following a Thursday evening domestic incident.

On May 30, 2019 officers were dispatched to a Peterborough residence for a domestic assault. It was reported that during an argument between the accused and adult male victim the accused assaulted the adult male victim and also assaulted a person in the home under 16 years of age.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with domestic assault and assault.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 31, 2019.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.
