Tuesday May 28, 2019 – Brampton, Ontario man and Markham, Ontario woman facing charges following investigation into fraudulent mileage claimed during summer placement

Fraud over $5,000 Arrests:

A 40-year-old Brampton, Ontario man and a 26-year-old Markham, Ontario woman are facing charges following an investigation into fraudulent mileage claimed during a summer placement.

Between late May 2018 and late August 2018 the co-accused were employed as summer students by a local publicly funded organization.

In January of 2019 it was reported to police that the co-accused fraudulently claimed an excessive amount of mileage during their employment. The male co-accused fraudulently claimed approximately $5,500 in mileage while the female co-accused fraudulently claimed approximately $4,308 in mileage.

As a result of the investigation on March 27, 2019 the female accused attended the police station where she was arrested and charged:

Shanteena Sirithar, 26, of Highglen Avenue, Markham, Ontario, is charged with fraud under $5,000. The accused was released from custody and appeared in court on April 25, 2019.

On April 30, 2019 a warrant was issued for the arrest of the second accused.

On May 27, 2019 the male accused attended the police station where he was arrested on the warrant.

Khawaja Jawad, 40, of Travis Crescent, Brampton, Ontario, is charged with fraud over $5,000. The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on May 27, 2019.

Dangerous operation Arrest:

An 18-year-old Selwyn, Ontario teen has been charged with dangerous operation following an incident in a local parking garage.

On March 31, 2019 at approximately 7:20 p.m. two males entered a George Street North mall after the mall had closed. The males were asked to leave by security at which point they exited then continued re-entering at different locations.

It was reported that once the two males were in the parking garage the one male entered his vehicle and drove through the garage in a dangerous manner. It was also reported that when the security officer attempted to stop the accused the accused continued driving, pushing the security officer with the vehicle. The parking garage was still active at the time of the incident.

Through the investigation the accused was identified. On May 16, 2019 officers attended a Selwyn Township residence where the accused was arrested and charged.

Hayden Joseph Judd, 18, of 5th Line, Selwyn, is charged with dangerous operation.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 5, 2019.

Warrant Arrest:

A 22-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested on a warrant for charges including assault and mischief following a domestic incident earlier in May.

On May 10, 2019 the accused and female victim were at a Peterborough residence when they became involved in a verbal dispute. It was reported that during the incident the accused assaulted the victim and damaged her laptop. The victim was able to leave the residence and the incident was reported to police.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused on the charges of domestic assault, mischief under $5,000 and fail to comply with a probation order.

On May 28, 2019 police were notified that the accused had been located by the Durham Regional Police Service and was in custody on the warrant.

Peterborough Police officers attended and the accused was transported back to Peterborough where he is scheduled to appear in court today (May 28).

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Domestic assault Arrest:

The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 48-year-old Peterborough man following a weekend domestic incident.

On May 24, 2019 police were dispatched to a Peterborough residence for a domestic dispute. It was reported that during the dispute the accused assaulted and threatened the female victim.

Officers attended and the accused was arrested at the residence and charged with domestic assault, uttering threats and possession of a schedule I substance (purple morphine).

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on May 25, 2019.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Domestic assault Arrest:

A 32-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with domestic assault following an investigation.

On May 23, 2019 police received a 9-1-1- call regarding a domestic assault occurring at a Peterborough residence. It was reported that while at the residence the accused and female victim had become involved in a verbal altercation during which time the victim was assaulted.

Officers attended and located the accused where, as a result of the investigation, he was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 5, 2019.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Warrant Arrest:

A 20-year-old man from the Township of Alnwick Haldiman, Ontario has been arrested on a warrant for domestic assault following an incident that occurred early in 2019.

In early January 2019 the accused and victim were at a Peterborough residence where they became involved in an argument. The argument escalated to a physical altercation during which time the accused assaulted the victim. The accused then left the residence. In mid-May 2019 the accused then sent the victim intimate images of one of her family members via a social media platform.

On May 17, 2019 a warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused. On May 24, 2019 the accused was located by the OPP in the Township of Alnwick Haldimand, Ontario where he was arrested on the warrant.

Peterborough Police officers attended and the accused was transported back to Peterborough where he is scheduled to appear in court on June 13, 2019.
