Wednesday May 29, 2019 – Port Hope, Ontario man facing several additional charges related to firearms offences following investigation

Additional Charges:

A 32-year-old Port Hope, Ontario man is facing several additional charges related to firearms offences following an investigation.

Sometime between April 26, 2019 and April 28, 2019 the accused attended a Peterborough residence where a dispute took place between the accused and male victim. The accused and victim know each other. As a result of the ongoing investigation, it was revealed that during the dispute the victim sustained a gunshot wound.

During the investigation it was also determined that in early May 2019 the accused had attempted to recruit a female victim as a sex trade worker and intimated the victim.

On May 23, 2019 the accused was arrested and charged. (See original media release below). At the time of the incident the accused was on a lifetime prohibition order prohibiting him from possessing items including any firearm or ammunition.

As a result of further investigation the accused will be charged with the following offences:

  • Discharge a restricted firearm or a prohibited firearm with intent
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Firearm – use while committing offence
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

The accused remains in custody and the additional charges will be read during a court appearance today (May 29).

Aggravated assault/procuring Arrest:

A 32-year-old Port Hope, Ontario man is facing charges including aggravated assault, intimidation and procuring following an investigation.

Sometime between April 26, 2019 and April 28, 2019 the accused attended a Peterborough residence where a dispute took place between the accused and male victim. On May 23, 2019 at approximately 6:10 p.m. the accused was located in the area of Stewart Street. Members of the Peterborough Police Service’s Emergency Response Team executed the arrest of the accused with the assistance of the Service’s ICAD (Intelligence, Crime Analyst, Assess Forfeiture and Drug) Unit.

As a result of the investigation Jordan Jay Watkins, 32, of Pine Street, Port Hope, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Procuring
  • Intimidation

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (May 24).

Assault with a weapon/Mischief Arrest:

A 24-year-old Lakefield, Ontario man has been charged with assault with a weapon and mischief following an incident at a Peterborough residence.

On the evening of May 20, 2019 the accused attended a Peterborough residence. It was reported that while at the residence the accused struck the male victim with a baton and damaged a television. The accused and victim know each other. The incident was reported to police on May 22, 2019.

On May 23, 2019 officers attended a Lakefield, Ontario residence where the accused was located and placed under arrest.

Mitchell Blair Mackenzie, 24, of Lakefield Road, Lakefield, is charged with the following:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Mischief under $5,000

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 18, 2019.

Assault Arrest:

An Ottawa teen has been arrested and charged with assault following an early morning incident.

At approximately 2 a.m. on May 29, 2019 the accused, a 17-year-old female from Ottawa, was seen throwing a rock at the security office window at a Hospital Drive address. When security staff attempted to speak with the accused it was reported that the accused assaulted one of the security officers.

Police were called and attended the address where, as a result of the investigation, the accused was arrested and charged with assault and fail to comply with a sentence.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 29, 2019.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.

Mischief Arrest:

The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 22-year-old Peterborough man with mischief and causing a disturbance following a Tuesday night incident.

On May 28, 2019 at approximately 9:10 p.m. police were called to a Murray Street address for a male refusing to leave the property. During the incident the accused caused a disturbance by yelling and screaming then running south on George Street kicking recycling bins and throwing objects, including a recycling bin, at a vehicle causing damage.

As a result of the investigation Evan Taylor Barry, 22, of no fixed address, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Causing a disturbance
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (May 29).
