Robbery with violence Arrest:

A 28-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with robbery with violence following a weekend incident in the area of Bethune Street.

Shortly after midnight on June 2, 2019 the victim, a 50-year-old male, was walking in the area of Bethune Street between Simcoe and Brock Streets when he was assaulted by three males and robbed of his wallet containing bank cards. The stolen bank cards were then used at a local convenience store.

Through the investigation one of the males involved was identified.

On June 4, 2019 the accused was located in the area of Bethune and Charlotte Streets where, as a result of the investigation, he was placed under arrest.

Eric Christopher Godfrey, 28, of Rink Street, Peterborough, is charged with robbery with violence.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on June 4, 2019. The investigation continues.

Robbery:

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a weekend robbery in the area of Bethune Street.

Shortly after midnight on June 2, 2019 the victim, a 50-year-old male, was walking in the area of Bethune Street between Simcoe and Brock Streets when he was assaulted by three males and robbed of his wallet containing bank cards. The stolen bank cards were then used at a local convenience store.

All three male suspects are described as Caucasian and in their early twenties.

Warrant Arrest:

A 50-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested on a warrant following a weekend robbery at a Peterborough residence.

On June 2, 2019 the accused was at a Peterborough residence during which time the male victim was assaulted and robbed of a large quantity of cash. During the incident the accused brandished a knife. The victim was taken to a local hospital via EMS for treatment to his injuries. The accused and victim know each other.

On June 3, 2019 a warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused. Later on June 3, 2019 the accused was located walking in the area of Edinburgh and George Streets where he was arrested on the warrant. During the search incident to arrest officers located an amount of Fentanyl on the accused.

Robert James Ward, 50, of Murray Street, is charged with the following:

  • Robbery with a weapon
  • Possession of a schedule I substance (Fentanyl)
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on June 4, 2019.

Impaired Arrest:

A 68-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including impaired driving after a police vehicle was struck in late May.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on May 21, 2019 a vehicle struck a police cruiser that was parked on Aylmer Street. The officers conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the male driver of the vehicle the officers noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath.

A subsequent breath test revealed the driver had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation Veikko Thomas Piipponen, 68, of King George Street, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Operation while impaired

The accused was issued a 90 day automatic drivers licence suspension and a seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 20, 2019.
