Friday November 29, 2019 – Peterborough woman facing charges including impaired driving following call to police from concerned citizen

Impaired/Over 80mgs Arrest:

A call from a concerned citizen has led to the arrest of a 54-year-old Peterborough woman for charges including impaired driving.

At approximately 3:23 p.m. on November 23, 2019 police received a call from the complainant reporting a possible intoxicated person that had left a Sherbrooke Street store and drove away in a vehicle.

A short time later officers located the suspect vehicle and female driver in the area of Colonial Crescent. Through the investigation it was determined the driver was impaired. A subsequent breath test revealed the driver had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system while operating a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Christine Elizabeth Johnston, 54, of Colonial Crescent, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Operation while impaired

The accused was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on December 18, 2019.

Assault Arrest:

A 15-year-old Peterborough teen has been arrested and charged with assault following an investigation.

On November 26, 2019 the accused and the male victim, who know each other, were at a Peterborough address. It was reported that while at the address the accused approached the victim and assaulted him by striking him several times in the head.

The incident was reported to police and officers investigated. On November 27, 2019 the accused attended the police station where, as a result of the investigation, he was placed under arrest.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on December 23, 2019.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.

Break and Enter Water Street business

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a break-in at a Water Street convenience store.

At approximately 5 a.m. on November 29, 2019 an unknown male broke into a convenience store on Water Street by forcing open a door. Once inside the unknown male stole two packs of cigarettes then fled the area.
