(PETERBOROUGH, ON) – On Wednesday, November 20, 2019, the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Peterborough Police Service will be hosting a media launch for the annual “Festive RIDE” Provincial Traffic Safety Campaign and the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Red Ribbon Campaign.
The Festive RIDE campaign will run between November 23, 2019 and January 2, 2020. The MADD Red Ribbon Campaign will run between November 1, 2019 and January 6, 2020. The OPP and Peterborough Police Service will be focusing their attention on those drivers who put public safety at risk by driving a vehicle while their ability to do so is impaired by alcohol or drug. During the campaign, officers will be highly visible as they conduct RIDE initiatives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the county.
The Festive RIDE campaign is a highly effective road safety initiative that has taken 6,495 suspected impaired drivers off OPP-patrolled roads during the holiday season over the past ten years.
Our message to everyone is that “Impaired Is Impaired”.
The media are invited to attend the Peterborough County OPP detachment for the media launch and RIDE initiative. Officers will be available to answer questions and the Mobile Command Unit (MCU) will be available for viewing.
