Thursday December 19, 2019 – Peterborough man charged with aggravated assault following incident in downtown

Aggravated Assault Arrest:

A 22-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault following a Tuesday night incident in the downtown.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on December 17, 2019 the accused and male victim, along with other parties, became involved in a verbal dispute in the area of George and Simcoe Streets. During the incident the victim was assaulted and sustained injuries to his face. A passerby called 9-1-1 and officers were dispatched to the area. The male was taken via ambulance to a local hospital for treatment to his injuries.

Through the investigation the accused was identified. On the night of December 18, 2019 officers attended a Peterborough residence where, as a result of the investigation, the accused was placed under arrest.

Joshua Christopher Geraghty, 22, of no fixed address, Peterborough, is charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Dec. 19).
