Thursday December 19, 2019 – Peterborough man facing charges including assault with a weapon and forcible confinement following incident at local residence

Forcible Confinement/Assault with a Weapon Arrest:

A 43-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including assault with a weapon and forcible confinement following an incident at a local residence.

On December 18, 2019 at approximately 10:30 a.m. the male victim was at a Peterborough residence where he was confronted by another male who brandished a piece of wood then assaulted and threatened the victim. During the incident the victim was unable to leave a room at the residence.

Following the assault the victim left the residence and was taken via ambulance to a local hospital for treatment to his injuries. The incident was later reported to police and officers investigated. The victim and accused in this incident know each other.

On December 18, 2019 officers attended a Peterborough residence where, as a result of the investigation, the accused was placed under arrest.

John Douglas Gilbert, 43, of Park Street North, Peterborough, is charged with the following:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Forcible confinement
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Dec. 19).

Mischief Over $5,000 Arrest:

The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged a 20-year-old Peterborough man with mischief following an investigation at a local automotive repair and maintenance centre.

On December 17, 2019 police received a call regarding a vehicle that had been intentionally damaged while receiving service at a local automotive repair and maintenance centre. The damaged was estimated at more than $5,000. Through the investigation the accused, an employee at the shop, was identified.

On December 18, 2019 the accused, Rio Cordell Moriarity, 20, of Milroy Drive, was arrested and charged with mischief – interfere with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property over $5,000.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 15, 2020.

Domestic assault Arrest:

A 24-year-old Peterborough woman has been arrested and charged with domestic assault following a Wednesday night incident.

On the evening of December 18, 2019 the accused and victim were at a Peterborough residence where they became involved in a verbal dispute. It was reported that during the dispute the accused assaulted the victim. The incident was reported to police and officers investigated.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Dec. 19).

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.
