Thursday December 5, 2019 – Peterborough man arrested following Wednesday evening robbery

A 33-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges including robbery with violence following a Wednesday evening incident.

At approximately 7:40 p.m. on December 4, 2019 the victim, a female in her 20’s, was walking northbound on Aylmer Street in the area of Charlotte Street when she was assaulted by an unknown man walking past her. During the incident the unknown male stole the victim’s wallet and grocery bag she was carrying. The male then fled the area.

Another person walking in the area at the time witnessed the incident and followed the male suspect while calling 9-1-1. A short time later officers located the male suspect in the area of Aylmer and Hunter Streets. During the incident the male was found to be in possession of a knife. When officers attempted to place the accused under arrest he resisted and assaulted two police officers.

As a result of the investigation Ryan Richard Demorest, 33, of St. Lukes Avenue, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Robbery with violence
  • Assault peace officer X2
  • Resist peace officer
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

The accused was also charged on a warrant for failing to attend court stemming from a previous incident.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on December 5, 2019.

Carrying concealed weapon arrest:

A 29-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and is facing charges including carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose following an incident at a Chemong Road store.

On December 4, 2019 at approximately 5 p.m. a male attended a Chemong Road store, selected items off the shelves, concealed the items in a backpack then left the store without making an attempt to pay for the merchandise.

Loss prevention officers followed the male out of the store and attempted to place the male under arrest. The male resisted arrest and assaulted one of the loss prevention officers then produced knives concealed on his person. Police were called and attended where they continued the arrest.

Following the arrest the male was found to be in possession of an amount of crystal meth.

As a result of the investigation Michael Barlow, 29, of Crystal Drive, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Carrying concealed weapon X2
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Methamphetamine
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Dec. 5).
