Media Release for Tuesday December 24th, 2019

Domestic Assault Arrest:

A 28-year-old Peterborough Man is facing charges including domestic assault and failing to comply with court imposed conditions following an incident that occurred on Monday.

 

In the early morning hours of December 23rd, 2019 the accused and a female victim became involved in a verbal dispute at a motel in the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan. During the dispute, the accused assaulted the victim. The victim made her way to her place of employment in Peterborough where she received a telephone call from the accused in which he made threats towards her. The victim then contacted police.

Officers attended to investigate, and during the course of the investigation located the accused walking in the area of the victim’s place of employment. The accused was subsequently arrested and charged with the following:

 

  • Assault
  • Uttering Threats – Damage Property
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by Officer in Charge
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance (x2)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

 

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Dec. 24).

 

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

 

Domestic Assault Arrest:

A 49-year-old Peterborough Man is facing charges including domestic assault and failing to comply with court imposed conditions following an incident that occurred on Monday.

 

In the afternoon of December 23rd, the accused attended the victim’s residence despite being on court imposed conditions to remain away from the victim and her residence. While at the victim’s residence, the accused and the victim became involved in a dispute, and the accused assaulted the victim. As a result of this incident, the victim contacted police to investigate. Officers attended and were initially unable to locate the accused, and a warrant was sought for his arrest.

 

In the evening of December 23, 2019 the accused again attended the victim’s residence and police were immediately notified. Officers attended the area and located the accused fleeing on foot from the residence. After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested the accused who was charged in relation to the warrant and new offence.

 

As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with:

 

  • Assault
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance (x2)

 

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Dec. 24).

Theft Arrest:

A 37-year-old Peterborough resident has been arrested and charged with theft following a Monday incident.

 

On December 23rd, 2019 the accused attended a downtown business where she was observed by staff selecting a quantity of candy and cosmetics which she concealed in her purse. Upon exiting the store, the accused was detained by staff and police were notified.

 

As a result of the investigation, Amanda Ellis of Parkhill Road East in Peterborough was arrested and charged with:

 

  • Theft Under $5,000 (Shoplifting)

 

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 14th, 2020.

 

Threats & Assault Peace Officer Arrest:

A 26-year-old Peterborough Woman has been arrested and charged with Uttering Threats and Assault Peace Officer following incidents that occurred on December 19th, 2019 and December 23rd, 2019.

 

On December 19th, 2019 the male victim was walking his dog in the rear parking lot of his apartment building. When the victim’s dog began to bark, the accused stepped onto her balcony and threatened to harm the victim’s dog, also threatening death to the victim. Fearful for his safety and the welfare of his pet, the victim contacted police who attended to investigate.

 

During the course of the investigation, officers identified the accused, and on December 23rd attended a Peterborough residence to locate and arrest her. During the course of the accused’s arrest, she assaulted the responding officers, including an Auxiliary member of the Peterborough Police Service.

 

As a result of the investigation Brittany Amanda Watson-Smith was arrested and charged with:

 

  • Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm
  • Uttering Threats – Damage or Injure Animal
  • Assault Peace Officer (x2)
  • Assault

 

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on December 23rd, 2019.

 

Theft Arrest:

A 36-year-old Peterborough resident has been arrested and charged with theft following a November incident.

 

On November 14th, 2019 the accused attended a Hunter Street business where she was observed by staff selecting a quantity of merchandise which she concealed in her purse. Staff reported this incident to police through the Peterborough Police Online Reporting System available through the Peterborough Police website at peterboroughpolice.com.

 

As a result of the investigation, the accused was identified. On December 23rd, Tiffany Cheryl Libby of Hunter Street East in Peterborough was arrested and charged with:

 

  • Theft Under $5,000 (Shoplifting)

 

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on December 23rd, 2019.

 

Break And Enter Investigation:

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a break-in at a George Street North business.

 

On December 23rd, 2019 between 1:08 a.m and 1:12 a.m an unknown person broke into a George Street north business by smashing a glass front door. Once inside the person stole a quantity of cash.

Break And Enter Investigation:

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a break-in at a Western Avenue Church.

 

On December 22nd, 2019 between 12:15 p.m and 7:00 p.m an unknown person broke into a Western Avenue Church. Once inside the person stole a quantity of cash.
