Friday January 10, 2020 – Phone call from concerned citizen leads to arrest of Peterborough man for charges including impaired driving

Impaired/Over 80mgs Arrest:

A phone call from a concerned citizen has led to the arrest of a 74-year-old Peterborough man for charges including impaired driving.

On January 9, 2020 at approximately 9:30 p.m. a concerned citizen called police to report a vehicle that had been running in a Montcalm Drive parking lot for an extended period of time with a male sleeping inside.

When officers arrived they located a male sitting in the driver’s seat of the car that was now awake. While speaking with the male driver officers noted an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. A subsequent breath test revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation James Watson, 74, of Montcalm Drive, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 plus

The accused was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 30, 2020.

Assault causing bodily harm Arrest:

A 48-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm following a late December 2019 incident.

On January 9, 2020 police received information regarding a domestic assault that had occurred in late December 2019. It was reported that while at a Peterborough residence the accused and female victim became involved in a verbal argument during which time the accused assaulted the victim. The victim later attended a local hospital for treatment to her injuries.

As a result of the investigation, on January 9, 2020 officers located the accused in Lakefield where he was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (Jan. 10).

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Assault Arrest:

An 18-year-old Township of Cavan Monaghan woman has been charged with assault following an incident in the City.

On January 8, 2020 at approximately 10 p.m. the accused and victim along with other parties were at Brookdale Plaza. It was reported that during that time the accused assaulted the victim, a teenage female, by striking her in the face.

On January 9, 2020 the accused attended the police station where, as a result of the investigation, she was placed under arrest.

Hope Lynn Wannamaker, 18, of Cavan Street, Township of Cavan Monaghan, is charged with assault.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 30, 2020.

Drug Arrest:

A 48-year-old Peterborough woman is facing drug charges following an incident at a local store.

On January 8, 2020 at approximately 9:30 p.m. loss prevention officers at a Lansdowne Street West store called police to report a potential shoplifter. When officers arrived they located the person and during the investigation an amount of Fentanyl was found to be in the person’s possession. Through further investigation the person was also found to be in possession of an amount of crystal meth.

As a result of the investigation Tracy Marie Gallant, 39, of Douglas Avenue, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance (Fentanyl)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance (Methamphetamine)
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on February 4, 2020.
