Jan. 11 – 13, 2020 – Police investigating robbery at East City restaurant

Robbery:

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a Friday night robbery at an East City restaurant.

On Friday January 10, 2020 at approximately 10:47 p.m. an unknown male entered a restaurant on Hunter Street East and attempted to climb over the counter to access the cash register.

An employee in the restaurant approached the male suspect and attempted to remove him from the counter. The suspect then assaulted the employee and an altercation between the two persons took place. The employee was able to remove the suspect from the restaurant and police were called. Officers, along with the K9 Unit, attended to investigated.

The suspect is described as follows:

* Male

* Caucasian

* Approximately 5’9”

* Thin build

* Wearing dark track pants, a grey hoodie, a black jacket and black toque

Impaired Arrest:

A 32-year-old Cardiff, Ontario man is facing charges including impaired by drug and a 26-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges including obstructing police and resisting arrest following a weekend incident.

On January 12, 2020 at approximately 1:30 a.m. an officer on patrol noticed a suspicious vehicle that was parked and running at the intersection of Donegal and Dublin Streets. The officer attended the vehicle and observed a male in the driver’s seat and a female in the front passenger seat. While speaking with the male driver of the vehicle and through the roadside investigation it was determined the male was impaired by a drug. The male was arrested for impaired and transported to the police station. While at the police station the accused refused to comply with a drug evaluation conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). He was further charged with refuse to comply.

As a result of the investigation Thomas Elmer Blake, 32, of Hemlock Street, Cardiff, Ontario, is charged with the following:

* Operation while impaired – by drug

* Failure to comply with demand

The accused was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 28, 2020.

During the investigation the female passenger jumped out of the passenger side of the vehicle and ran towards police. The passenger was instructed to stop but continued to try and push past an officer on scene. She was also instructed to remain out of the vehicle but refused and continued to attempt to try and enter the vehicle. The female was initially arrested with obstruct police. During the arrest the accused resisted.

As a result of the investigation Vanessa Lolino-Mabel, 26, of Downie Street, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

* Obstruct peace officer

* Resist peace officer

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 29, 2020.

Break-in: George Street North nail salon

The Peterborough Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance following a break-in at a George Street North nail salon.

Sometime between 7:20 p.m. on Friday January 10, 2020 and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday January 11, 2020 unknown person(s) broke into a nail salon located on George Street North. Once inside the thieves stole a large quantity of nail polish, nail gel, acrylic powder, cell phone, a quantity of cash and various other nail products.

Possession of firearm while prohibited Arrest:

A 26-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges including possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order, mischief and assault peace officer following a Saturday afternoon incident that began at a local business.

On January 11, 2020 at approximately 4 p.m. police were called to a Reid Street auto business for a male locked in the shop bathroom refusing to leave as they were closing for the day.

 

Officers arrived and located the male in the bathroom. Through the investigation it was revealed that the male was wanted on a warrant for failing to re-attend court.

As a result of the investigation Jesse Dean Rowe, 26, of no fixed address, Peterborough, was arrested on the warrant for failure to attend court.

While being arrested on the warrant the accused was found to be in possession of a BB gun and a tactical knife. Through further investigation it was revealed that the accused is currently bound by five weapon prohibition orders.

Subsequently, the accused was charged with possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order X5.

While in custody at the police station the accused threw a cup of liquid at the officer, striking the officer and spreading the liquid across the cell area.

The accused was additionally charged with mischief under $5,000 and assault peace officer.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in weekend and statutory holiday court on January 12, 2020.

Domestic assault Arrest:

A 34-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with domestic assault following a weekend incident.

On January 11, 2020 at approximately 1:30 a.m. the accused and female victim were at a Peterborough residence where they became involved in a verbal argument. It was reported that during the argument the accused assaulted the victim. The incident was reported to police and officers attended.

As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with domestic assault. The accused was held in custody and appeared in weekend and statutory holiday court on January 11, 2020.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Domestic assault Arrest:

The Peterborough Police Service has arrested and charged an 18-year-old Peterborough man with assault following an investigation.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on January 10, 2020 police attended a call for service regarding the male accused and through the investigation it was reported that earlier that same day during a domestic dispute the accused had assaulted the female victim.

As a result of the investigation the male was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on January 28, 2020.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.
