Jan. 18 – Jan. 20, 2020 – Peterborough man facing charges including assault causing bodily harm following investigation

Assault causing bodily harm Arrest:

A 42-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement following a Friday evening incident.

On the evening of January 17, 2020 the accused and female victim became involved in a verbal dispute while at a Peterborough residence. During the dispute it was reported that the accused assaulted and choked the victim and prevented her from leaving the residence. Following the assault the accused left the residence. Police were contacted and officers attended.

A short time later officers located the accused at a Peterborough residence. As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault causing bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
  • Forcible confinement
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was held in custody, appeared in weekend and statutory holiday court on January 18, 2020, was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear again in court later today (Jan. 20).

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Impaired Arrest:

A 34-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after  having driven to the police station while impaired.

Shortly before midnight on January 13, 2020 a male attended the police station to speak with an officer on an related matter. While speaking with the male in the front lobby of the station the officer noted a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the male’s breath. Through the investigation it was revealed that the male had driven his car to the police station.

A subsequent breath test revealed the male had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle. It was also revealed that the male is a novice driver.

As a result of the investigation Tit Shing Mak, 34, of Voyageur Street, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Novice driver – Blood alcohol concentration about zero (Highway Traffic Act)

He was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on February 19, 2020.

Break and enter: George Street North

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a break-in at a George Street North business.

Sometime between 6:45 p.m. on January 18, 2020 and noon on January 19, 2020 unknown person(s) broke into a George Street North hair salon through an insecure door. Once inside the thieves stole items including a television and hair products.

Break and enter: McDonnel Street residence

The Peterborough Police Service is asking anyone with information to come forward following a break-in at a McDonnel Street home.

Sometime between 3:50 p.m. on January 18, 2020 and 4:20 p.m. on January 19, 2020 unknown person(s) broke into the home through a locked window. Once inside thieves stole several pieces of clothing and accessories including watches and purses along with electronics.
