Friday February 21, 2020 – Peterborough man arrested and charged with mischief after breaking window at a Paterson Street residence and entering the home

Mischief Arrest:

A 58-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with mischief after breaking a window at a Paterson Street residence and entering the home.

On February 20, 2020 at approximately 5:17 a.m. an unknown male smashed a window at a Paterson Street residence then entered the home through the broken window. The residents, who were home at the time, confronted the male who then ran and hid in a nearby room. The residents and the male do not know each other. Police were called and officers attended where they located the male still inside the home. The male was taken to a local hospital for medical attention

As a result of the investigation Russell Ronald Post, 58, of Park Street North, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 12, 2020.

Theft /Mischief Arrests:

A 31-year-old Scarborough, Ontario woman and a 19-year-old man of no fixed address have been arrested on warrants in an ongoing theft and mischief investigation.

On November 26, 2019 an unknown male and an unknown female entered a Lansdowne Street West store and began looking at electronic merchandise. The couple left the aisle shortly after.

During this time a second couple, comprised of a male and female, entered the store, selected an item, concealed the time under the female’s dress and left the store without making an attempt to pay for the merchandise.

Shortly after the first couple returned to the tablet aisle, gained access to a display case by damaging the case, took several tablets from the case and concealed the merchandise under the female’s dress. The male and female then left the store without making an attempt to pay for the concealed merchandise.

It was determined through the investigation the individuals involved were working together in this incident. Through the investigation three of the parties have been identified and on January 2, 2020 warrants issued for their arrest.

On February 7, 2020 one of the accused parties, Ion Dumitrascu, 19, of no fixed address, was located in Toronto and arrested by the Toronto Police Service. Peterborough Police attended and continued the arrest of the accused on the warrant for the following charges:

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Mischief under $5,000

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on February 8, 2020.

On February 20, 2020 the co-accused, Madalina Costache, of Kitchener Road, Scarborough, attended the Peterborough Police station where she was arrested on the warrant for the following charges:

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Mischief under $5,000

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 3, 2020.

The investigation is continuing to identify and locate other individuals involved.

 

Over 80mgs Arrest:

A 22-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged following a Thursday morning traffic stop.

At approximately 2:23 a.m. on February 20, 2020 officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of King and Water Streets. While speaking with the male driver of the vehicle officers noted a strong odour of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath. A subsequent breath sample revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation Brayden Justin Hewie, 22, of McDonnel Street, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.
The accused was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 18, 2020.

Domestic assault Arrest:

A 16-year-old Peterborough teen is facing charges including domestic assault and mischief following a Thursday night incident.

At approximately 11:26 p.m. on February 20, 2020 it was reported that during an argument between the accused and female victim the accused assaulted the victim and kicked in a door. Police were called and attended.

A short time later officers located the accused in the area of Armour Road. The accused was found to be intoxicated and also found to be in possession of an amount of cannabis.

As a result of the investigation the 19-year-old accused was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Domestic assault
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with a sentence
  • Public intoxication (Liquor Licence Act)
  • Person under 19 years having liquor (Liquor Licence Act)
  • Person under 19 years possess cannabis (Cannabis Control Act)

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today (Feb. 21).

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.
