Friday March 20, 2020 – Peterborough teen facing weapons charges following Wednesday night incident

A 17-year-old Peterborough male is facing weapons charges following a Wednesday night incident.

On March 18, 2020 at approximately 10:50 p.m. police received information regarding a large group of youth who had exited two separate vehicles in the area of Valleyview drive and were involved in an altercation on the street. It was further reported that some of the youth then left the area in the vehicles heading south on Wallis Drive while one of the youth involved was seen on foot.

Officers and the K9 Unit were dispatched to the area. A short time later the youth was located by K9 Officer Cowie and Police Service Dog Isaac on a trail north of Valleyview Drive. During the investigation it was revealed that during the incident the youth had been in possession of a paintball gun and a knife.

As a result of the investigation the youth was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose X2.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 25, 2020.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.
