This May long weekend will certainly look and feel different than any other Victoria Day weekend in the recent past. But what hasn’t changed is our Service’s commitment to ensuring our residents can celebrate this weekend safely and by following the laws, including the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
The Province’s Emergency Management and Civil Protect Act (EMCAP) remains in effect and our Service is continuing to enforce the Act. We remind the public that rules around physical distancing are still in place and gatherings of more than 5 people (unless the individuals live together) are still prohibited. Also, we remind our community that certain places such as the local zoo and playground equipment in local parks, remain closed.
If persons wish to report an incident under the Act please call our non-emergency line at 705-876-1122 and do not call 9-1-1 unless it is an emergency.
Our officers will also be patrolling local streets looking for traffic offences including impaired driving and speeding. We know that there are less vehicles on the road during the pandemic but with traffic complaints to our Service currently up 95% we know there are people taking advantage of the less busy roadways and not following the rules of the road.
