Thursday May 14, 2020 – Cardiff, Ontario man arrested and charged with dangerous driving and impaired driving by drug following incident

Impaired Arrest:

A 32-year-old Cardiff, Ontario man has been arrested and charged with dangerous driving and impaired driving by drug following a Wednesday evening incident.

On May 13, 2020 at approximately 5:48 p.m. police received a call for service regarding a traffic complaint in the area of Douglas Avenue. The complainant reported a vehicle driving erratically and with a flat tire. Police then received several other calls for service regarding a vehicle driving on a flat tire that appeared to have been in a collision. Officers were dispatched to the area.

At approximately 6:41 p.m. officers located the vehicle, driving with two flat tires, heading westbound on Middleton Drive, and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. During the investigation it was revealed that the driver had made contact with several other vehicles and objects while operating the vehicle. Through the investigation, which included the use of a Drug Recognition Expert, it was revealed that the driver was impaired by drug.

 

As a result of the investigation, Thomas Elmer Blake, 32, of Hemlock Street, Cardiff, Ontario, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 21, 2020.

The accused was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

Impaired Arrest:

A 32-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired driving charges following a Wednesday night collision into a construction zone.

On May 13, 2020 police received numerous 9-1-1 calls regarding a vehicle that had crashed into a construction site in the area of George and Townsend Streets.

Officers were dispatched and at approximately 8:11 p.m. located a vehicle that had collided into a construction zone on George Street. Peterborough Paramedics and Peterborough Fire Services were also dispatched to the scene. Witnesses reported that the male driver had exited the driver’s seat and was now sitting in the passenger’s seat. Officers saw a lone male occupant in a passenger seat. The male was transported via EMS to a local hospital for treatment to his injuries.

As a result of the investigation Eric Christopher Oswald, 32, of Dalhousie Street, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – by alcohol and/or drugs.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 22, 2020.

The accused was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.
