Fail to comply with release order Arrest:
A call from a concerned citizen regarding a male in possession of a weapon has led to the arrest of a 23-year-old Peterborough man on several charges of breaching his conditions.
The accused is currently on several conditions including not possessing any weapons as defined by the Criminal Code.
On July 30, 2020 at approximately 4:50 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Hunter Street West for an unwanted male at a residence. When officers arrived they were advised that the male had left the area on foot. A short time later officers located the male at the corner of Reid and Hunter Streets. While speaking with the male officers observed that the male was in possession of a can of bear spray. As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a release order. At approximately 6:50 p.m. the accused was released from custody on an undertaking.
A short time later, at approximately 7:20 p.m., police received a call from a concerned citizen who saw a male and female in the area of Hunter and Bethune Streets engaged in a verbal dispute and reported that the male appeared to be in possession of a handgun. Several officers were dispatched to the area to locate the male. During the investigation officers located a BB gun.
At approximately 7:20 p.m. officers located the male in the area of Rubidge and Brock Streets. Through the investigation it was revealed that the accused is also on conditions to not be in contact with the female from the dispute.
As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with probation X2.
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today (July 31).
Due to the domestic nature of this incident the name of the accused will not be released.
Assault/Break and Enter Arrest:
A 25-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including assault, break and enter and possession of stolen property following an incident at a City home.
On July 30, 2020 at approximately 9:30 p.m. an unknown male broke into a garage at a Nevin Avenue home. When the complainant confronted the male the male attempted to flee the area. The complainant was able to apprehend the male while another citizen called 9-1-1. During the incident the complainant was assaulted.
Officers arrived on scene and as a result of the investigation the male was placed under arrest. During a search incident to arrest the accused was found to be in possession of several items of stolen property.
As a result of the investigation Ryan David Girard, 25, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Break and enter
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Fail to comply with a probation order
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (July 31).
