Monday July 27, 2020 – Peterborough woman charged after police officer assaulted

Assault peace officer Arrest:

A 22-year-old Peterborough woman is facing charges including assaulting a peace officer and carrying a concealed weapon following a weekend incident in the area of George Street North.

On July 25, 2020 at approximately 8:30 p.m. officers were in the area of George Street North speaking with several youth on the train bridge on an unrelated matter.

When an officer arrived on scene the accused began swearing loudly at the officer and was cautioned by the officer for causing a disturbance as people in the area were disturbed by her actions. During the incident the accused was observed to be in possession of a bag of unmarked cigarettes contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act. When the officer advised the accused of the cigarettes and attempted to seize the bag the accused assaulted the officer. As a result, the accused was placed under arrest for assault. During the search incident to arrest the accused was found to be in possession of a concealed weapon (knife). The accused is currently on conditions including not possessing any weapon as defined by the Criminal Code and keeping the peace and being of good behaviour.

As a result of the investigation Farrah Nicole Eriksen, 22, of Sherbrooke Street, is charged with the following:

  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Carry concealed weapon
  • Fail to comply with prohibition order
  • Fail to comply with probation X2

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 22, 2020.

Impaired driving/Mischief Arrest:

A 28-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with impaired driving by drug and mischief following an incident.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on July 27, 2020 police were dispatched to the area of Lansdowne Street and Clonsilla Avenue for a report of an impaired driver. The witness followed the suspect vehicle to the area of Cherryhill Road and Redwood Drive while providing regular updates to police.

An officer attended the area and saw the suspect vehicle mount the curb as it attempted to make a right hand turn onto Redwood Drive. The officer conduced a traffic stop on Redwood Drive. During the traffic stop the driver of the vehicle failed to put the vehicle in park and it rolled backwards striking the police vehicle. The accused was initially place under arrest for impaired operation.

Through the investigation and the use of a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) it was determined that the accused was impaired by a drug. Further, during the investigation the accused caused damage to the cell area at the police station. It was also revealed that the accused is currently a suspended driver.

As a result of the investigation Willan Roy Dunbar, 28, of Park Street North, is charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – drug
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with release order X2
  • Drive while suspended (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was issued an seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 22, 2020.

Assault Arrest:

A 23-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with assault and mischief following a traffic incident in the area of Chemong Road.

On July 26, 2020 at approximately 1:45 p.m. police were dispatched to the area of Chemong Road and Simons Avenue regarding a two vehicle collision.

It was reported that while the male victim was driving southbound on Chemong Road he attempted to pass the suspect vehicle ahead of him at which point the suspect vehicle abruptly cut over into the victim’s lane. The suspect vehicle struck the victim’s vehicle. The two vehicles came to a stop at a red light at which point the driver of the suspect vehicle exited his vehicle, approached the victim’s vehicle and struck the victim in the face then punched the driver side mirror, causing it to break. The driver of the suspect vehicle then walked back to his vehicle and drove off.

The incident was reported to police and officers attended. Officers identified the driver of the suspect vehicle and made contact with the driver to attend the police station. The driver attended the police station, where as a result of the investigation, he was placed under arrest.

Brandon James Sawers, 23, of Nicholls Street, is charged with the following:

  • Assault
  • Mischief under $5,000

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 24, 2020.

Domestic assault Arrest:

A 51-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with domestic assault following a Friday morning incident.

Shortly after 11 a.m. on July 24, 2020 police were dispatched to the area of Brock Street for a disturbance. It was reported by witnesses that a male had assaulted a woman, knocking her to the ground. Through the investigation it was revealed that the male accused and female victim are in a domestic relationship. Shortly after the male accused returned to the scene where, as a result of the investigation, he was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 24, 2020.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

Impaired operation Arrest:

A call from a concerned citizen about an impaired driver led to the arrest of a 58-year-old Peterborough man.

On July 24, 2020 at approximately 6:20 p.m. police received a complaint regarding an impaired driver who had left a Lansdowne Street West store. Police were provided a description of the vehicle and located the suspect vehicle still in the parking lot and a male in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. While speaking with the male driver officers noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath.

A subsequent breath test revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operation a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation David Jonathan Reddish, 58, of Brunswick Avenue, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

The accused was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 24, 2020.
