Thursday July 30, 2020 – Peterborough man and Cobourg, Ontario woman facing charges following Wednesday night incident

Assault Arrests:

A 28-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including assault with intent to resist arrest and a 28-year-old Cobourg, Ontario woman is facing charges including assault peace officer and obstruct police following a Wednesday night incident.

On July 29, 2020 at approximately 11:30 p.m. officers attended a Peterborough address after receiving information that the accused and female victim were together. Following a previous domestic assault the accused is currently bound by a probation order to not have any contact with the victim.

Officers located the couple at the address and attempted to place the male under arrest for failing to comply with his probation. The male resisted arrest and assaulted the officer then continued to flee the area on foot. While attempting to pursue the male the female accused tried to intervene and assaulted an officer. Following a foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend the male.

As a result of the investigation a 28-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault with intent to resist
  • Breach of probation X2

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (July 30).

A 28-year-old Cobourg, Ontario woman was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault peace officer
  • Obstruct police
  • Breach of probation

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 30, 2002.

Due to the domestic nature of this incident the names of the co-accused will not be released.

Assault/Theft Arrest:

A 45-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including assault and theft following an incident in a local mall parking lot.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on July 29, 2020 officers were dispatched to a Lansdowne Street mall for a disturbance. It was reported that the male accused had attended a grocery store attached to the mall, selected items off the shelves then left the store without attempting to pay for the items. A loss prevention officer followed the male outside the store and attempted to place the male under arrest for theft. The male dropped the stolen goods and fled into the mall parking. The loss prevention officer called mall security for assistance. Mall security located the male in the parking lot and also attempted to place the male under arrest at which point the male resisted and assaulted the security officer.

Police were called and attended where they continued the arrest.


As a result of the investigation Daniel Paul Manley, 45, of George Street North, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault with intent to resist
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with probation

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later today (July 30).

Break and Enter: Benson Avenue

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating following a break-in at a Benson Avenue residence.

Sometime between 11 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. on July 29, 2020 unknown suspect(s) broke into a Benson Avenue home through a locked rear door. Once inside the thieves stole property including an assortment of jewellery, a MacBook and a gaming headset. The homeowner was not home at the time of the incident.
