Thursday July 9, 2020 – Peterborough area man facing charges including impaired driving following incident at local campground

Impaired/Over 80mgs Arrest:

A 70-year-old Peterborough area man is facing charges including impaired driving following an incident in a local campground.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on July 7, 2020 police were approached by the complainant in the area of Beavermead Campground regarding a possible impaired driver driving through the campground who had just pulled into a campsite.

Officers located the suspect vehicle and the male driver. A subsequent breath test revealed the driver had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation Joseph Henry Sampson, 70, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued an automatic 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 10, 2020.

Pointing Firearm Arrest:

A 21-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges including pointing a firearm following an incident outside a multi-unit residence on Hilliard Street.

On July 7, 2020 at approximately 9:30 p.m. police were dispatched to a multi-unit residence on Hilliard Street for a weapons call. It was reported that during a verbal dispute outside the residence between various tenants and some of their guests the accused had brandished a BB gun and discharged the gun toward a group of males involved in the dispute.

As a result of the investigation Manny Adam Vaughan, 21, of Hilliard Street, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Pointing Firearm
  • Mischief under $5,000

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 10, 2020.
