Assault Peace Officer Arrest:
A 31-year-old Cavan-Monaghan Township man has been charged with assault peace officer as well as other offences following an incident with a Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) Conservation officer on Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 3:00 p.m. on October 3, 2020 the accused was involved in a collision with an MNR Conservation officer vehicle on County Road 10 in the Township of Cavan- Monaghan. The accused became irate with the Conservation officer who was notifying the police of the collision. The accused reached into the MNR vehicle and caused damage to a Ministry communication device while advancing and shouting toward the officer.
Other motorists observed the altercation and stopped to assist the Conservation officer. The conservation officer attempted to arrest the accused, at which time a struggled ensued and witnesses assisted the officer.
Police arrived and continued the arrest. During the arrest, the accused uttered threats towards Cavan-Monaghan officers.
As a result of the investigation, Douglas Robertson, 31, of Cavan-Monaghan Township was arrested and charged with assault peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest, utter threats and mischief under$5,000. He was held in custody and attended court on October 4, 2020.
