Break & Enter/Flight from Police Arrest

A 39-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges in connection with a break and enter and flight from police incident early Thursday morning.

At approximately 11:00am on Friday, April 1, 2022, officers located the vehicle involved in the incident on Sherbrooke Street West between Brealey Drive and Highway 7.  Officers conducted a traffic stop and were able to take the driver into custody.  During the arrest, officers noticed signs of impairment with driver.

As a result of the investigation into the original incident and the arrest, a 39-year-old Peterborough man was charged with:

Criminal Code Charges:

  • Break and Enter a place - commit indictable offence
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Dangerous operation
  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Theft Over $5000 of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 - Canada
  • Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Refuse to Provide Breath Sample
  • Resist a Peace Officer
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine

Highway Traffic Act Charges

  • Careless Driving
  • Drive Motor Vehicle - No Plates
  • Operate Unsafe Vehicle
  • Litter Highway
  • Drive Motor Vehicle No License

The accused was held in custody and will appear in court tomorrow, April 2, 2022.

Original Release

Peterborough Police are investigating after a break and enter at a Peterborough business early Friday morning. 

Just before 1:00am on April 1, 2022, an alarm call was received from a business in the Rubidge Street and Rink Street area.  Officers on general patrol in the area attended the business and noticed someone getting into vehicle and fleeing the parking lot, officers followed the vehicle but after a short distance called off the pursuit for safety reasons.  Upon returning to the business officers learned a door had been smashed and that the vehicle involved in the pursuit had been stolen.
