Pursuit/Stolen Vehicle Arrests
Several arrests were made after an incident involving stolen vehicles Sunday morning.
At approximately 2:30am on Sunday, April 11, 2021, officers were notified about several stolen vehicles from the west end of the City of Peterborough. Officers located one of the vehicles in a parking lot in the Sherbrooke Street and Kinsmen Way area.
As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Cheyenne DeMaeyer of Peterborough was arrested and charged with possession over $5000.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on April 27, 2021.
During the investigation, officers saw a vehicle known to be stolen from the Halton Region taking off through the fields at Kinsmen Park. A pursuit was initiated but called off because of the high rate of speed.
Officers also recovered, in the same parking lot, a third vehicle that had been reported stolen.
At approximately 8:00 am on Sunday, April 11, 2021, officers on patrol in the downtown area noticed the vehicle that had taken off from Kinsmen Park, however, while attempting to stop it, the vehicle accelerated away at a high rate of speed, running through a red light. The vehicle stopped momentarily then took off again. Police did not pursue the vehicle for safety reasons.
The vehicle was spotted again on Monaghan Road at McDonnel Street. Officers set up several blocks away in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the driver drove onto the sidewalk to avoid an officer and a police vehicle and continued to speed away running several more red lights. A short police pursuit was called off again because of public safety.
A short time later officers located the vehicle idling but empty in the Simcoe Street parkade. Officers spotted a male matching the description of the driver that was given to police at Alymer Street and Simcoe Street.
The male was then arrested without incident. The accused is currently bound by a probation order out of St. Catharines with the following conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Nathan Carney of Hamilton charged with the following Criminal Code charges:
- Flight from police officer
- Dangerous operation
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada

- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
And the following Highway Traffic Act infractions:
