Weapon Recovered
Peterborough Police Service recovered a weapon after a short police pursuit was called off Friday afternoon.
At approximately, 4:30 pm on February 19, 2021, officers were in the area of Dalhousie Street and Rubidge Street when they saw a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. When officers activated their emergency lights, the vehicle initially stopped, but then accelerated away. Officers followed, but the vehicle continued to accelerate heading westbound on Sherbrooke Street and the pursuit was called off.
At this time officers saw a bag being tossed out of the vehicle. They located the bag and confiscated a loaded revolver and 50-60 rounds of ammunition.

Impaired/Over 80 mgs Arrest
A 21-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges as a result of a traffic stop Friday night.
At approximately 11:30pm on February 19, 2021, police received a call about a single vehicle into a tree on Armour Road north of Cunningham Boulevard. When officers arrived, the occupants were outside the vehicle and officers noticed signs of impairment with driver. The driver was taken by ambulance to Peterborough Regional Health Centre and treated for minor injuries.
As a result of the investigation, 21-year-old Alexander Thompson of Peterborough was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired by alcohol
- Operation while impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 plus
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day drivers license suspension and the vehicle will be impounded for seven days.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 18, 2021.
