Media Release: Firearms Call Northcrest Plaza:
On June 24, 2022 just after 12 noon Peterborough Police responded to the parking lot at Northcrest Plaza, 184 Marina Blvd regarding a possible shooting involving two male suspects, wearing balaclavas. One of the males was in possession of a rifle and discharged the rifle into a crowd of youths in the parking lot.
Upon arrival police located 5 to 6 victims between the ages of 15-17 years in the parking lot. Police quickly determined several of the victims had multiply injuries caused by an air soft rifle. The two suspects fled riding bicycles.
A short time later police received information from neighbours in the Evans Drive/ Tobin Court area advising the suspects were on their street. Police attended the area and after a short pursuit arrested the two suspects. Police located a replica style black AR-15 air soft rifle with over a 100 round magazine capacity on one of the males. Both were taken into custody without incident.
An 18-year-old Peterborough man is facing the following charges:
- S. 244.1 Causing bodily harm with intent-air gun or pistol
- S. 88 Weapons Dangerous
- S. 270.01 (1) Assault with a Weapon
- S. 90 (1) Carry a Concealed Weapon
- S. 351(2) Disguise with intent to commit an Indictable Offence
A 14-year-old Peterborough youth is facing the following charges:
- S. 244.1 Causing bodily harm with intent-air gun or pistol
- S. 88 Weapons Dangerous
- S. 270.01 (1) Assault with a Weapon
- S. 90 (1) Carry a Concealed Weapon
The victims did not seek medical attention.
The Peterborough Police Service would like to thank residents in the area for assisting us in locating the suspects and bringing this incident to a quick end without any further safety issues to the community.
