COVID-19 Update
Peterborough Police Service laid 14 COVID-related tickets under the Reopening Ontario Act over the weekend.
On Saturday, April 10, 2021, five tickets were laid in relation to the protest in front of City Hall and nine tickets were laid in connection with a call for service at Armour Hill where approximately 20 youth between 18 and 19 years old were tailgating with open alcohol and music. Along with the COVID-19 related charges, two Highway Traffic Act tickets were issued as well as a Liquor License Act infraction. Officers at the scene learned that all of the youth were from outside the City of Peterborough.
Officers also continued with quarantine compliance checks, completing 22. All checked were compliant.
On Saturday, April 10, 2021, Peterborough Police were also called four times in a short period of time to the Simcoe Street and Bethune Street basketball court for about 15-20 people gathering on the court in contravention of the Reopening Act (gathering of more than 5 people), education and warnings were given, however, continued non-compliance led to the request to the City of Peterborough for the courts to be shutdown.
