Snapchat Scam

Peterborough Police want the public to be aware of a scam around the social media app, Snapchat. 

On Friday, April 1, 2022, officers received two reports where young people under the age of 15 were asked to send nude photos of themselves, once photos were received the person then asked for money or for gift cards, threatening the sender to distribute the photos if they didn’t. 

Anyone with information or if they have experienced such a scam is asked to call Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.stopcrimehere.ca

Also report any incidents to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. The Centre also has tips on how you can protect yourselves and loved ones including being careful who you share images with and remembering that if you don’t know the person in real life to be extra cautious and to not enter into a conversation.

 

Drug Offences Arrest

A 34-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Sunday evening.

On April 3, 2022, officers located a man involved in drug trafficking and were able to take the suspect into custody in a parking lot in the Chemong Road and Milroy Drive area just before 7:00pm. 

As a result, a 34-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
  • Drive while suspended (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was held in custody and will appear in court today, April 4, 2022.

 

Assault Arrest

A 34-year-old Lakefield woman is facing an assault charge after an incident Friday afternoon.

At approximately 3:30pm on April 1, 2022, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call from a residence in Lakefield. Upon arrival officers learned that a woman had approached another woman about some comments, that lead to a verbal dispute which then escalated to a physical dispute. 

As a result, a 34-year-old Lakefield woman was arrested and charged with assault. 

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on April 26, 2022. 

 

Break and Enter Attempt

Peterborough Police are investigating after an attempted break and enter at a Cavan business.

At approximately 11:30pm on April 2, 2022, officers were notified of an alarm at the business in the Highway 7 and Country Road 10 area.  Upon arrival, officers noticed some damage to the exterior but that the building had not been entered.
